My last Sax in Rock & Roll mix got me delving into my horn discs and put me in the mood for the music that led to rock... jump, R%B, Honk and Growl horn players who got feet stompin' and butts swingin'.
This stuff just makes me smile and snap. Alot of this came from a great three disc set, "Honkers and Bar Walkers" that Delmark put out about 5 years ago. The mix is also heavy on King Curtis and Louis Jordon, who are two of my favorites.
The odd man out here is Boots Randolph, who is a little pedestrian for this crowd, but "Yakety Sax" just fit so well where it fell that I couldn't resist.
Title is a sucker bet in Craps.

This is exactly the kind of pre-rock stuff that's GREAT with sax. Nice job.

Love it! Too many brilliant picks to mention - the whole thing is just rocking.

Boots Randolph is pedestrian? Oops. Lots of great stuff here. Funny title too. Reminds me of something Joey de Vivre might make.

gotta say that I don't know anything here other than artists names. However,I have been researching for a few hours now (and still don't know anything here), but have had a blast listening to King Curtis and Louis Jordon - and the very little I can find on Fred Jackson is amazing (if a little sad). So a great mix . . .

This is some fine fine yakety sax, & I think you only called Boots pedestrian 'cause he was made for walking, am I right?
I'd like to hear this, if you're ever into trading . . .

This looks like a damn fine mix, that would do just fine for our next trade Mark.
