Comment:

My recent, random obsession with the Afghan Whigs - and Greg Dulli - in general also has led to an obsession with soul music. It's always been one of my favorite genres, but this is my first attempt at an entire soul mix. I don't know if I'm completely satisfied with it, though. A lot of good stuff got left off - James Carr, Al Green, Gene Chandler, James Brown... But I guess that's just an excuse to make another.Oh, and Vernon Hardapple is the name given to the James Brown-looking guy at the Hi-Hat Club in "Wonder Boys".

A bullseye on your first try. Great picks. Congrats. And you don't need an excuse for making a Soul mix, just appreciation for melody, lyrics and honest emotion. Now if you'd just uploaded and included a link......

Thanks for the positive feedback! I'd love to provide a link for everyone, but unfortunately I'm fairly technologically impaired. Most of this was transferred from vinyl (some CDs) straight to a cassette. Until I get the ability to put my LPs on the computer, I'll be able to do the link thing. Until then, though, I'd be happy to do an old-fashioned trade with anyone who's interested.
