Comment:

This is the second volume of the series on live recordings. This time the songs come from an acoustic setting, which is my personal favorite when atte_nding a show. There are so many terrific "listening rooms" around the country like The Birchmere (near D.C.), The Iron Horse in Northampton, Mass., Cat's Cradle near Chapel Hill, NC, Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA, and so on and so forth. Supporting these venues helps to promote new music and keep singer/songwriters working, some of whom travel around on a shoestring budget. I recall meeting Edie Carey one night at Eddie's Attic after her set and hearing her tell about life on the road when one is riding around in a car that's held together with bailing wire. Clearly, however, she does what she does for the love of music and performing. And she's very good at her craft, just not in the way that's ever going to fill an auditorium or make her a lot of money unless some movie soundtrack or commercial picks up one of her songs.

So this mix is a tribute to the musicians who play the acoustic clubs and cafTs. And there is a quiz for someone to win a free copy of this mix. Amy Rigby was once married to what session/backing musician?

Not much on the Maria, but you more than make up for it with the Mose.

I'm okay with Mariah, but Avril? Really? Oh, well. There's Duncan, Erykah, Jackson, Loudon, Thrills, Bob, S&G, Elliott, Robyn, CC, BDB and Ray! Oh, Ray.

I've often found that the artists I'd least expect (or artists I don't really like) somehow record the best live tracks. So I'm expecting a lot from the artists here I've never cared much for before. :)

Wasn't Amy Rigby married to Will Rigby? I know now she's married to Wreckless Eric.

This simply shows that live is the medium in which artists truly show their talents. Also, live performances emphasize the interaction between musician and audience, bringing out the best in both. Lovely playlist! I always liked Steve Forbert and Dave Van Ronk.

I'm with you completely - live and acoustic is the best there is. Fantastic mix, despite some left-field choices!

Acoustic shows have their place but I prefer things cranked up to the max. Some top tunes here my fave being the Ray Lamontagne track.

Ah yes I'll raise a glass to the these troubadors. Some terrific artists on show here Dean. I just adore that Badly Drawn Boy track it's a real shame he has never got close to the brilliance of his debut.
