Comment:

In the ’70s you heard her in Chaka Khan and Natalie Cole; in the ’80s and ’90s, you heard her in Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston; today you hear her in everyone from Fantasia to Jennifer Hudson. And then there’s Joss Stone: Climbing onboard a freight train of a rhythm track, the Aretha-like “Tell Me ’Bout It” delivers Joss’ “let’s get it on — now” message with such off-the-hook sexiness you’re not quite sure if it’s legal . . . but you’re damn sure gonna listen a dozen straight times to find out. Aretha’s lessons of full-blown passion weren’t lost on Alicia Keys, whose torn-in-two confessional “Fallin’” is all feeling. You cry with her, you die with her. And, of course, there’s Mary J., who knows how to draw you into her drama. In “Be Without You,” you can practically hear her heart pounding beneath each and every groove. Get in on all the drama — from Amy Winehouse to Luther Vandross, these are the artists who bring it like it needs to be brought.
