Tasty as usual, Jeff. I'd love to see you post this mix at the trade site, or arrange for some more physical trading. I've been getting into this stuff recently, too. I bought one of those Proper "honkin' sax" box-sets the other day -- foot-tapping music to be sure! But this mix has honkin' sax + so much more! Wonderful!

Honkin' for sure! There better not be any complaining about substance on this one.

Speaking of the Treniers, does anybody know about the etymology of the word "poontang"

speaking of the Treniers, they say "poon is a hug, tang is a kiss - a huggin & a kissin - that's poontang" -but somehow I just don't trust their scholarship . . .

The Treniers actually released a promotional item at the time the song came out: A can with a label that said "Finest Alabama Poontang." I sure would love to get one of those!

And, Jeff, as always, kick ass mix. I'd love a copy!

This looks fab JDV! Clearly you're not buying your records at Sam Goody. Wish I could find just one song I recognize to comment on, but alas, I'm left speechless.

I'll ditto Rob here and then get to the question "does anybody know about the etymology of the word "poontang".

OK, we know that currently it refers to specifically the vagina and generally to having sex.

Where the expression came from is controversial. Some say it came out of Storyville in New Orleans and was a mix of French "putain" for prostitute and Bantu "mu tanga" for having sex.
Or it may have come from US soldiers returning from the Philipines in the early 1900s where there was a Tagalong expression of "putang ina mo" which means fuck you. There was also an overseas Chinese term of "poong tai" which had sexual meaning in the early 1900s and may have been brought back by soldiers from Asia.

There also used to be a sweet dessert called "pudding tang". So take your pick.
