Comment:
My fave selections from my fave musical humorist. Here is a collection of studio tracks, live tracks and tunes he composed for the "Electric Company" kid's program in the 70s. Perhaps a few of the references are dated, but some of it is still, sadly, very relevant.
Feedback:
We need Tom Lehrer now more than ever. Nice one, Sean!
oooooo - this I would love to hear . . . . I know Tom by reputation only. Good job in pulling all this together.
Great lookin' mix Mr. Lally!
Completely unknown to me, but the reference to the "Electric Company" has piqued much interest.
as one whose world view was shaped at 12 by incessant playing of lehrer's records, and as one who finds an excuse every year to get to one of my sons' classes to play them 'new math' or 'the elements,' i can vouchsafe that you got jes' about all the good 'uns, sean. (i do miss 'poisoning pigeons in the park' and 'a christmas carol', though, and if you're looking for obsurities track down 'hanukah in santa monica.') as another commenter noted, we need tom more than ever. wel done, sean.
I'm with the 'gnome. I have no idea who this guy is...
Wonderful! I have most of Leherer's stuff on a mix of vinyl and the reissued albums on CDs. For those of you unaware, this is very droll, politically pointed humor. But what else would you expect from a Harvard professor. He was, I'm sure, Mark Shields' main influence.
Wow, great stuff here Sean. Been a Prof. Tom fan since my Dr. Demento days in the 70's. Biggest omission for me is "Masochism Tango" . Had no idea he was part of the Electric Company ... what a crew ... Cosby, Moreno, Lehrer ... wasn't Morgan Freeman on that too?
This is great, and still oh so topical. I love S-N with a passion. And note, I hadn't seen this when I started out my latest mix with the cut from which you take your title.
