Comment:

Another in the series of acoustic mixes - those guitar strummers just keep appearing out of nowhere. Many thanks to alma cogan for the Watersons track!
The title is from the Gravenhurst track and it inspired the cover art: the picture shows Saltair in Utah, a holiday resort on the Great Salt Lake which was built as a Western equivalent to Coney Island. It opened in 1893 and was highly popular for wholesome, seaside-resort-style family entertainment until around 1930, but the number of visitors then declined until the pavilion and surrounding attractions were forced to close in the 1950s. There have been a lot of attempts to revive it, despite fire damage and a general lack of public interest, and these have been partly successful: the place is now sometimes used as a concert venue. The Great Salt Lake is certainly worth a visit if you ever happen to be in that neck of the woods (I used to live in Salt Lake City so have visited a few times) but the most recent renovations of Saltair could never really compete with the original building, and the remnants of other parts of the resort are quite eerie in the way that only disused carnival sites can be...plus, the whole place reeks of sulphur.

Gorgeous mix Siobhan. Too many great tracks to mention. I agree with g.a.b, a fine title. And, the picture is Saltair in Utah and NOT Central Pier, Blackpool?

Nice. There's nothing quite like the sound of a gently strummed acoustic guitar. Especially like the LA's, April March and the Beatles (though I'm unfamiliar with that song. Was it a b-side?). Have you heard any of the new Rose Melberg CD? It has some beautiful acoustic-guitar based songs.

Whoah...almost missed this one. Of course, this is really, really lovely. Only know about half of this one, but I dig the vibe of the whole thing. You are one of the BEST at these types of mixes, for sure.

Lovely. (I feel like I say that on all of your mixes, but it's always the first word that comes to mind). I really enjoy your acoustic mixes (or at least the look of them!) And I'm very intrigued by Saltair... it looks a little eerie, but maybe that's cos the picture is in black & white.

Good stuff! Graham Coxon is on a roll at the moment, isn't he? . . . . . and we played that Billy Bragg and Wilco album to death when it came out - time for a relisten methinks
