Comment:

This is a Mexico mix. My wife and I spent about 10 days in two spots in the Yucatan Peninsula - 5 days at Isla Mujeres, and 5 days at Playa del Carmen. This mix attempts to capture our vacation and the vibe of Mexico.

I had heard about Isla Mujeres in the 80's as a very "cool" spot with a slow tempo and very little nightlife. It is still somewhat "cool",. although boatloads of Cancun day trippers make their way over each day, and I hear that in recent months Tony Blair and posse reserved an entire boutique hotel away from town for a week.

Playa del Carmen, on the other hand, has gone from sleepy fishing village where the ferry will take you to Cozumel to what is said to be the fastest growing town in Mexico. This is now a "hot" destination, but in low season with very nice beaches we had a very good time.

For the web I skipped the personal cd cover of my wife smiling, about to sample her latest margarita. The title "Working Remotely" ties into her work on laptop and cell phone sandwiched between margaritas and dips in the sea. Our joke, and our toast, was that "working remotely" is just fine!

Why the songs on the mix with seemingly nothing to do with Mexico? Well I'll tell ya:

Bob Marley's Is This Love is representative of the cool vibe tunes that we played in the wonderfully air-conditioned place in Isla after waking up, before making our way down to the beach for morning coffee.

I had never heard the Sting song, but at our place's outdoor restaurant they played a nice morning mix with this on it. This song was perfect while the caffeine was kicking in as the sounds of the small ocean waves made their way to our table. I do love the tropics! At least when beaches are at hand.

We rented a car for a day in Playa del Carmen and checked out a few spots between there and the Tulum ruins about an hour south. The Stones' guitar/sax workout was a perfect road song to help the thousands of palm trees wiz by even faster.

Full disclosure: Tracks 3, 6, 12, 18, and 19 are from the soundtrack to the movie Frida. Also, tracks 5 and 14 are versions of the classic song, but track 13 is a different (and killer) song.

Must download: Tequila by CafT Quijano

Enjoy the mix!

This looks terrific! I never see Mexican-oriented mixes, and would love to get some ideas for a mix to make for my wife, who's Mexican. So thanks and really, bravo on the unique contribution.

I love the song, Cielito Lindo. my brother and I explored the Yucatan Peninsula with an elderly Mormon tour group (don't ask) in the summer of 2003. the place is fantastic, and what a wonderful way to capture the memories, feelings and sounds of your trip! so much better than a slide show.

Very nice, very chilled and very suitable for the Yucatan sun.My wife and I spent a month in Playa Del Carmen back in 98. I guess it was showing signs of 'exploding' then, but wow! the fastest growing town in Mexico now . . . progress! Did you hire a 25 year old VW Beatle?Good stuff . . .

very excellent Yucatan vacation vibe . . . viva la vida! I'd be very pleased if I could trade you anything for this - such as maybe a recommendation at Blanquita's hotel in Cozumel, for next time?

Wonderful, and even more so to see you posting on the site again. Nice theme too and makes me want to go to Mexico - like the Pete Seeger inclusion a lot. I haven't heard the Frida sountrack so I think I'll check it out.

A wonderful mix. And I fully appreciate that in the right surroundings the Sting pick would sound really nice. Excellent choices here..
