The Guiltiest Pleasure Mix. Some say Sandinista is too long. I say it isn't long enough.
My favorite album, an absolute epic recorded in a three week period. Yet, an often
neglected mention is that Ellen Foley's Spirit of St Louis is basically an extension of the
album. Mikey Dread was likewise a major part of the album and Bankrobber is his
Good Vibrations so it is particularly fitting to be likewise included in the package
rather than the Christmas song as it became intended. And one should also
mention the efforts of Tymon Dogg and very importantly, the Blockheads. This was an
incredible piece of socialism not only in artistic terms but application. Indeed, it
is a big band album. Back in 1981, remixing Sandinista into another cohesive gel of
audio dynamite was the initial project on my first mixer. I still have that Maxell
tape but never attempted a recreation using non-linear methods. Next March, an epic
tribute recreation of Sandinista featuring such artists as Bill Price, the Smithereens
and Wreckless Eric (on The Crooked Beat no less) will be released - so consider this
Sandinista v1.5, for now. The future is written, doncha know. As one can see from the
playlist, many of the tracks have been reconstructed. For that, this is a rare listen
whether one be a Clash fan or not. There is a certain romance to it all and I really
love this mix. Some album tracks were replaced with B sides, and that is just a quirk
rather than an opinion. As much as an epic mix it is, my intent was not to daunt the listener.
And for that very reason, it is being released as a two part mix in keeping with the
spirit of the original production. It has been said that if Exiles On Main Street
was The Cocaine Album, then Never Mind The Bollocks was The Speed Album. This must
be The Mescal Album. I wanted to make this mix another Smile, so I made mine mescalene.
Is the music of grove skin rock soaked in the diesel of warboy's war? Listening to this mix
will make you a better person. How's that for sentimental attitude? After twelve minutes
and forty fve seconds, you will understand what is happening. Ride it out. Presented now in high quality MP3 format.
