Comment:
* and so am I*
A dreary Sunday in late November sparked memories of a radio show that I produced and hosted in upper NY around 10 years ago.
Even though we were a low budget AM station, somehow found a way to incorporate a slice of americana, jazz, blues, country, folk, big band and pop in a homespun format a la the old WNEW or still glorious Idiot's Delight.
Here, we have 8 decades represented, Duke Ellington's 1937 recording of East Side closes the 23 song, 78 minute guilty pleasure.
Is there anything weepier than track *20, Sinatra's '58 classic about a sad man, a women, a bottle of spirits and a bartender!
Ruth Brown....one of a kind...
Feedback:
Solid mix, for which you should feel no guilt! And fitting inclusion of Ms. Brown.
Great stuff, Mr. Fan. Thanks. And yes, that Frankie number is a real weeper. Would be a good cover for Tom Waits to do, if he already hasn't.
Love the Ollabelle, Miles, Dixon, Emmylou, Rev. Al, Frank, Dylan and Duke tracks.
Every one a gem. There is nothing "low budget" about this selection. I agree with you about Ruth Brown. As for Frank's "weepier" possibilities; I propose "In The Wee Small Hours" -- an all time favourite of mine -- as weepy as they come.
