After publicly singling out my mother for her lack of knowledge of musical history, it seemed only fair to do the same for my father as well. (Also, I kinda needed Christmas presents for both of them...) The situation is much more dire here, too - basically, my father doesn't actively listen to music at all, and there are only three or four artists that I really know he genuinely enjoys hearing whenever someone else puts them on. Two of them are Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen - yet for some reason, he always manages to get their names all mixed up. Some weird affliction with the letter C, it seems (it doesn't appear to be genetic - phew). Anyway, with some assistance from my brother, who provided the post-'74 Cohen output as well as the artwork, I made him this mix, which will probably just confuse him even further. This, of course, makes no claim to present my favourite 11 songs by either Cash or Cohen (even less so for Cash than for Cohen), as it would have been impossible to make that flow - but they're all good songs, and they work together better than I would have dared to hope. Title taken from the opener/closer. Track 18 and 22 were nicked from this mix by Jean-Yves.

well somebody's playing quite the santa this year -- prime selections from two of the greatest songwriters/artists of the past 50 years. brilliant from top to bottom

Careful now. you will have Tom & Terry along in a minute with boxing gloves for this pair of heavy hitters. I'm not going to be churlish and list exclusions, as of course with two back catalogues this fine there will be many that need to be overlooked for the sake of brevity. This mix looks supremely listenable and that is no surprise.

This is so good that you have me wishing I was your Dad this Christmas. Now that's just too bloody weird and pretty unforgivable. Stop it!

I can understand your father's puzzlement, because these alternating DJ mixes are always such a challenge. Hmmm, I think that's Leonard on odds, and Johnny on evens?

he probably confuses cat stevens and captain beefheart too. at least you are trying to show him the way.

Ooh my old man would love this but instead he's just gonna have to make do with the 'Country Feel' mix I've made him.

Me like. I did something similar with Beck and Donovan awhile back but his is much more adventurous. It flows much better than I would have thought. Bravo.

Great choices by two fine artists. Nice mix. He probably confuses Yul Brynner, Yuri Gagarin and Uri Geller also. I know I do..

Brilliant! (Great cover, too!)

anything with this much Lenoard Cohen must be good. i don't think i would have thought to mix the two, mostly because Johnny Cash is my driving music while Leonard Cohen is my drinking music. it's best not to mix the two, so so i thought.
