Comment:

I have to admit I'm feeling a bit self-conscious about putting up a mix starting with political sloganeering so soon after the last one, but if I absolutely have to be remembered as the person who kicks off all of her mixes with revolutionary slogans, then I guess I'd much rather be associated with anarchosyndicalist anthems than with hymns praising Chairman Mao, so here it is. The recipient of this mix asked for a mix that would be "experimental/droney/folky, or noisy, or whatever, really", so I attempted to make it all of that, focusing on the "whatever, really" part (my favourite genre, hands down). The concentration of the more edgy and experimental stuff towards the beginning and the mellow and acoustic tracks towards the end of the mix is mostly due to the fact that I caught a cold halfway through putting it together, so the second half turned out softer than it probably would have been otherwise. Since I do like the flow of it the way it is, I figured I might as well leave it that way.

Title from the Einstnrzende Neubauten track, or rather from the English translation of the Einstnrzende Neubauten track.
Thomas' comment below reminded me that I should perhaps put in a word of warning about the opener: No, this is not a good song. And no, I would not have put it on this mix if the sole purpose had been to impress the people at AotM with my impeccably good taste. It wasn't. It was a mix I made for a guy who I think this might resonate with, and it's a song that resonates with me (largely, I suppose, for nostalgic reasons. Not in the sense of "I loved this when it came out", by the way, as the song is 11 years older than I am, but rather in the sense that this song was so much fun to sing along to when I was 15 and believed that the world would be a better place once we started the anarchist revolution, which was going to happen any day now). If you can't handle that, track 2 starts at 04:14. I stand by the rest of the mix, musically ;)

Keine leichte Kost. . . ;)

While I recognize nothing on this, 1972 was the time frame when "power to the people" and "we can make it happen" was a central theme in my life.

I'm starting to wonder that too, gobi. Which is remarkable, 'cause I don't usually talk to myself in bad German.

Yet another well thought out gem here Alex, I only know the MV and the closing pair but I am on the download trail as I type...

I know absolutely zilch on this mix cept the neubaten track, a band that i admire but would rarely listen to. I enjoy finding mixes I really have no clue about!

I don't know what Thoma¯ is talking about, but this looks intriguing. Come the revolution, the old guard is outta there and you are in charge of the music.

5 years of German and Schei¯ is the only word I understand from Thomas' comment. (Plus I just had an argument with Rob C last week on how to pronounce Neubauten). Think i'll skulk my half- Prussian a¯ off to a corner and listen to this.

I only know (and love) the Neubauten song, but I'm looking forward to hearing the rest. And I wouldn't call my discussion with Mark an "argument," per se (especially because I was right)... ;-)

My goodness!!! First, I am shocked (and a bit delighted) that I can say I know much of the artists and works, here.Secondly, I love the transitions you've employed throughout. Thirdly, thank you for the share..as it will introduce the few "unknowns to mes" set "amongst the "amazings I know" tracks.Lastly, I agree with you regarding the "whatever, really" genre, but I tend to listen to the classic "whatever, really" stuff more and more...you know, since today's "whatever, really" music is getting sooo commercial and overplayed!

So, so good. That first track was alright by me. Loved Sunshine Girl. But the final 25 minutes or so of this.. Wow, amazing, beautiful. Great stuff Alex :)
