Comment:
A Happy 65th Birthday to Henry St. Claire Fredericks, born on May 17th, 1942 and known since the early 60's as Taj Mahal.

Catch his performances while you can, a living legend
Love Taj> Thank you Mark.
dunno a thing by him mark, i guess i should remedy this by use of your link? i'll give him a spin on my way to DMV today
i've been listening, thanks for the link. this fills in a lot of gaps in my taj education. there are no selections from my favorite taj mahal album, happy just to be like i am, leading me to believe that you don't have access to it. if this is true mark you need to check it out. stealin', oh susannah, 18 hammers, and chevrolet are all near the top of my favorites. special kudos for 2,3, and 14-16.
thanks, mahdishain, it's now on my wish list. I have a half dozen Taj albums and he's got such an extensive discography that I am considering it a gradual acquisition project. My personal favorite albums are Senor Blues and Phantom Blues.
Taj exists on his own damn plane, the closest (not in sound, but superior musicality) would be George Clinton. Criminally neglected, and a superb mix to correct that.To paraphrase Elwood Blues..."I don't know. I think you need to get as many Taj Mahal records as you can."
great stuff by an outstanding treasure of a musician
Couldn't agree with Mahdishain more re 'Happy Just To..... it was my introduction to Taj in the early 80's been a huge fan ever since. Great mix thanks for the d/l.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, there is not a Taj track that I don't love... thanks for this. I also have the Rhino Handmade reissues of some hard to finds - tell me if you need/want it.
This would be somewhat educational for me, as I have never devoted myself to this artist's catalogue. It seems as though I will be rewarded. Thx for this!!!!
I've got a shed load of Taj albums but haven't yet scratched the surface . . . . . great stuff, and if we ever get a definitive listing, I'll have those pigs fed and ready to fly !
We can have the cake and eat it too. Thanks!
Happy Birthday TM. I know bits and bobs here but the download is most, most welcome. Cheers Mark..
Very, very interesting to me, Mark. You know he's one of those artists that you dig that's interested me for awhile, right? (I've been reading about him for 20 years but have mixed feelings on what I've heard thus far.) Downloading now.
