a mix of songs that crawled into my awareness from the depths of my musicmatch jukebox as i zombied out playing a spate of online poker. with my pc down for the last few months, i had gotten out of the habit of listening to music around the house, so it was a bit of a mental shock to get reminded that there were lots of gems waiting to be discovered (or re-discovered) from my selective hoovering of my keeling-over piles of plastic disks.

this mix was originally intended to have some kind of power down the clocks / stop to take a breath theme, inspired by viewings of 'cashback' and 'the lives of others'. instead, the mix strained to go its own way, and once i finally acquiesced, the tracks suddenly began to fit together. if you think that *this* mix is all over the place, just wait til i gather up the outtakes that were culled from this one ...

track 3 is from a '45 that i picked up in belgium on my first trip over the pond. for track 9, i honestly don't know who the performers are, since i can't read the korean version of the soundtrack that i have (a failed attempt to escape DRM hell), but i lifted these names off of imdb, so hopefully they are close. track 12 is from the soundtrack to michael winterbottom's 'wonderland', not the hollywood druggie flick. track 17 is from another movie soundtrack, anglicized as 'kamikaze girls'. i've had a fondness for the stylistics ever since being seduced by my dad's 8-track 'best of the stylistics' collection, so i'm stoked that i've managed to fit them onto this mix.
