Comment:

I could pontificate about the importance of this mix, its contents, or the inherent "greatness" (in the big sense) of (to me, anyway) every one of these tracks, but that would be pointless. Instead, to paraphrase a friend of mine here, let's call this mix exactly what it is: a collection of my absolute favorite reggae-related tracks (I say "related" only because I am far from being an expert on Jamaican music sub-genres and couldn't say for sure that every song here is "reggae" by its most rigorous definition). Thanks to pf for the Horace Andy track and to SwankQueen for hipping me to the Dawn Penn track. Last tracks cut: "Man Next Door" by Dennis Brown, "I Love Marijuana" by Linval Thompson, and "Ku Klux Klan" by Steel Pulse. Title by Desmond Dekker and Hawkeye Pierce, in equal measures.

I have to confess that, like (presumably) a fair number of rock fans, my reggae collection is limited to a handful of Bob Marley albums and the Harder They Come soundtrack. I like the music fine, but maybe it's just the association of frat boys and their mandatory copy of Legend played at every party back in college that kept me from spending much time with it. I'm hoping you make this one into a downloadable sampler, as I imagine you've put together a far more compelling mix than any store-bought compilation.

All classic cuts, Burning Spear's being the stand out track pour moi. Makes me feel irie might have to set to on another reggae mix of me own now.

i have to admit, as well, that i've never been a big reggae fan, for pretty much the same reason pop kulcher isn't - however, i would definitely be interested in giving this a spin & seeing what i've been missing out on
