Comment:

...and the final addition. See disc two to listen to 1 and 2. I was worried I'd run out of good material as I got down to the thimble-sized countries, but this one might be my favorite of the bunch. Enjoy! Map detail from the Kangnido map from Korea, from 1402.

Love,
Mike

Update: My girlfriend said, " Well, Rand McNally left out North Dakota off one of their map books..." That made me feel a little better about leaving out Sudan.
Here's a link for the missing countries. Sudan takes the closer spot on disc 3 with some much needed rap; Mauritius and Rodrigues (technically the same country) follow Guinea on disc 2, and Mayotte... well Mayotte won't fit, so it will have to revolt against France and I'll find it a place. I've included a Mahorais seggae (reggae plus sega) track for the hell of it. European territories of the Atlantic, you will also have to revolt to get a spot...

The first outing still plays a lot on my mp3 player, these two will be a blessing if they are half as good. Thanks Mike.

This one looks more personal, judging by the credits. I'll have to bug Rob for copies.

YES! Many congratulations on Mix of The Week Mike. Fully deserved. I listened to the first volume but not 2&3 as yet - tomorrow afternoon I shall indulge in all three. Great achievement - and hey, i didn't even know there was a Country called Sao TomT & Principe :)

Congrats Mike on MOTW! The kids will be rocking from Ouagadougou to Lilongwe.

I have a question for Sammy. Doesn't the school system there teach that "the sun never sets on the great Portuguese empire"?

To repeat what others have already said, a very well-deserved MOTW for what must have been a fun but time-consuming project.

P.S. I've had a soft spot for the music of Burundi ever since picking up the "Musiques Traditionelles" LP on the Ocora label all those years ago.

We all came from Africa, so they say, but some of us have pretty much lost touch with our roots. I look forward to getting back to the source via these cool-looking treasure lodes.

Man, am I digging these mixes! Are you aware, though, that you've included "Orem Ka-Ka-Ka" by Pierre Akendengue on both Volume 2 and Volume 3? By my count, there's only 52 tracks here, and doubling that one up makes for only 51 countries represented. What's missing?

Crap. Sorry bout that. I think there might be a Ivory Coast double too in the download. For shame! Thanks for pointing it out, and I'll try to fix it and see what's missing! Best,
Mike

Ok. Apologies are due to Mayotte, Mauritius, Somaliland, Melilla, Ceuta, Saint Helena, Canary Islands, The Art of the Mix, and shunn789. Here's where determining what qualifies as a country gets tricky, but corrections will be made, and tunes will be found! I hope!

Frankly, I'm happy to have gotten two Ivory Coastages from the download! But I'll also be eager to hear whatever else you come up with.

Wonderful and deserved!! Any chance of some retrospection on a possible 4th volume with some SWAPO material?

...and this one I played at work today. loved the tunes from Central African Republic and Tanzania the most, along with that incredible tour through Sao TomT & Principe, Gambia, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe. I'm personally going to invade and take over several African countries, just so I can divide them up, thereby forcing you to make more mixes with songs from all the new countries I create. excellent pick for Mix of the Week, Rob! ps. that old map resembles a picture of my 3rd grade teacher scolding me after school.

This is so, so cool. I've been poking around AOTM sporadically over my winter vacation, and am quite pleased to see you're still going strong and that this compilation make it to MOTW. Now you're probably getting inundated with requests, but... what if I got a few mixes of my own lined up for the new Lunar New Year? =)
