Comment:

After cover tributes to the Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys and the Who, it only seemed logical that the next (giant) step should be the fabulous Monkees. This mix was originally compiled to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the band's TV premiere and record debut in 1966, so you can see I'm a bit behind in posting it. Better late than never!
Here's a quiz for all you sweet young things: be the first to name the cuddly toy company that manufactured my Monkeemobile on the cover, and a copy will be sent to your P.O. Box. I'll even toss in a totally groovy Monkees patch!

Was it Ford? This is just amazing. I never knew there were so many artists covering Monkees songs. Nina Hagen covering I'm A Believer, that I'd like to hear.

Yo, Auntie Moe. I guess the cuddly toy must have been made by M(odel) P(roducts) C(orporation). And this sweet young thing definitely looks like ti could give me a PLeasant Valey Sunday. Anyway, I'm a believer, baby.

I didn't know HALF of these existed. Always liked Gedge's stab at Pleasant Valley... very cool Monkee Moe.

Peter's guess is a good one, as Corgi did produce a Monkeemobile. But unfortunately his answer is incorrect. Keep trying, daydream believers!

Is it the Japanese toy company ASC? Nice looking mix by the way, any chance of a link?

Geez, this is too cool for words. Aside from the Wondermints, Run-DMC, and Dickies, I'm wholly unfamiliar with this. We'll need to talk trades (or downloads)...

"These are the bones of the elephant man. And THESE are the bones from the Invisible man. AND THIS is the transmission from the Monkeemobile." If it' s not the MPC or the AMT or the Imai (yellow, no less), then I'll have to go with ASC http://www.moviereplicars.net/list_movies.asp?search1=The%20Monkees

Glad you finally posted this mix, Moe. I don't want to win a copy as I already have one ( smirks smugly ), so I'll give an answer that I'm 99.9% sure is incorrect. Matchbox?
Love almost all of this, specially 25 & 30

These guys were a guilty pleasure for me in High School, when the original shows aired. While my friends were buying LPs by Dylan, the Kinks, the Stones, etc, I was also buying albums by these guys. And I still have the originals in good condition. I know and have many of these tracks, but given some of the more obscure ones (like the commercials), I too vote for a link. Good job. And a testament to the writing abilities of Boyce & Hart, Carole King and Mike Nesmith!
