Comment:
I was mildly surprised to discover that no-one's yet posted anything by Rachel Unthank & The Winterset, creators of my favourite album of 2007: "The Bairns".
So here's a mix setting matters right, together with some of the other minor-key, slightly down-tempo female-sung tracks I've particularly dug over the past 12 or so months.
Incidentally, the double appearance of "Sally Free & Easy" illustrates a curious phenomenon I've noticed: every now and then, you hear for the first time & instantly fall in love with a track and all of a sudden, it starts cropping up all over the place. I first came across "Sally" on Davy Graham's Folk Blues & Beyond; then I got Pentangle's "Solomon's Seal" and there it was again; and yet again on Tree's "On The Shore". A few weeks later a charity shop trawl uncovered a Marianne Faithful Best Of with it on and when I followed a friend's advice and checked out Flying Saucer attack, blow me down if they didn't put it through the sonic mincer! Anyone else ever had a similar experience?

Very lovely folk-ish mix. Love the Fontaine, Newsom and Broadcast, and the Cilla is a big favourite of mine.

All I really know is Marianne Faithfull and that is good enough for me.
