Comment:

The "Year in the Making" Series continues. And, alas, many of you will note, this mix contains music that will be quite familiar to most; proof positive, no music enthusiast can, nor should, live in the obscuro rack, alone. The real trick, for me, was determining how best to sequence and blend these tracks, so as to not rehash (in it's entirety) that, which has come before. Many might also recognize the cover art work comes from Kim Deitch. I chose this so as to highlight my recent obsession with all things, Graphic Novel. What can I say? It's a medium that perfectly aligns to my reading level, as my enthusiasm for reading books for enjoyment's sake took a drastic turn for the worse, once pictures were eliminated. All kidding aside, many of the finer graphic novels I've read certainly don't strike me as "made for children". So, though I wouldn't aggressively argue with those who might turn their noses up at such things, my hope is that no one would dismiss this highly artistic approach to story-telling without giving it a shot. Oh, one last word, I can assure you, the books are FAR better than the movies!Anyhoo, my ramblings aside, at least, here's a little background listening music for the rest of you more advanced literary types. BLAMMO!!!!!

This collection really supports how great a year 2007 has been for music and why putting together the best of the year takes a series.

On the graphic novels... for the past couple of years the college library I work at has been focused on building a comprehensive collection of graphic novels. We've purchased hundreds and have also moved beyond novels. I recently read a graphic biography of Ronald Reagan. Slapped him around quite a bit too. Also read the "graphic" version of the 9/11 report. Interesting stuff.

yep, lots of familiar titles here, but they're all quite frankly absolutely fantastic, & tons of these made my own list of my favorites from '07 - the shins, jens lekman, wilco, iron & wine, andrew bird, of montreal, okkervil river & beirut are all among them...cheers!

Well, sometimes songs and artists are obscure for a reason. I love the mix, the art, basically the whole enchilada.

This one hits me in the hip pocket. 2-5, 9, 10, 13, 18 and 19 all hit the Blammo button for me.

This one'll hit me in the wallet - already liking the Iron & Wine, Band of Horses, and Wilco...but looks like several others that I'm going to need to check out.

Some of this still looks like it came from the "obscuro rack." Deer Tick? Cloud Cult? Radicalfashion? Can I find this at Target? ;) Wham, Blam, thank you Gnome man.

Patrick Wolf, far better than Mika, why isn't he a star? Shins, Bright Eyes, Of Montreal...so much to love.

I'm late to this party, but when listening yesterday, Jens Lekman, Patrick Wolf, Beirut and Band of Horses stood out as favorites. consistently good, as usual - even if these are more "well-knowns" than usual.
