Comment:

I don't know why, exactly - could be my heavy movie upbringing, conditioning me to think of everything in big, exaggerated, pretentious terms - but there's nothing I love more than believing in the power of music to change the world. I know, what does that even mean? I don't know, but when I'm compiling mixes, I invariably end up in this pompous state of mind, imagining how profoundly this music affects my life and reflects it and expresses it and these 80 or so minutes are the grand summation of the movie, the big theme, played out with alternating intensity and tender poignancy. Not true, needless to say. My life is an endless formula. No excitement, no serious ups or downs, no adventures, epiphanies, changes, incredible moments. I mean, I love it, but it certainly doesn't deserve a soundtrack as dynamic as this mix. Well, maybe it deserves the introspective tracks. Actually, it does deserve them all, but mostly as substitutes for the reality of my outward existence. I feel each of these songs, but I don't show it, an unfortunate side effect of my cultural zombification. I'm scared of being ridiculed or rejected by putting myself out there, even in the most general ways. Of course I shouldn't care, but I've cared for so long, since such a young age, that I'm stuck. I'm never comfortable just letting my feelings hang out. I'm always reserved and self-conscious. It's a lame way to live, but I'm trapped in it by my own stupid mortal fears. Oh well, make the best of your fuck-ups, I guess. If I can't adequately burst with joy, or lash out with anger and frustration, or not give a fuck and just be goofy sometimes, at least I have all this exquisite music to do it for me, like paralyzed people with their electronic voice synthesizers. I've said this all before in previous mix comments, I know, but it bugs the shit out of me (not enough to change, needless to say, but enough for me to turn it over in my mind a billion times), so I can't just let it go. A recurring theme, let's call it.

Some people try better living through drugs or alcohol. Music is definitely an improvement as far as lifestyle enhancers go.

love the title. hesitating beauty jumps out at me. on the personal note, there are many paths. most lives are not epiphanious fireworks displays. we need as many people grinding out goodness day after day to make the world a better place. my bet is that you do deserve this soundtrack. practice peace.

I love the Josh Ritter track.

Sometimes the only way I can show my feelings to others are playing the songs that can say the words that I don't know how to say.

I think you've done a great job here.
