Comment:

Just your basic single artist mix from a band that was barely around long enough to need one. Not to be confused with (Jonathan Richman's) Modern Lovers, the Bigger Lovers were a Philly-based power pop band that quietly released three albums in the early 2000's before breaking up. The band was firmly in the post-Big Star camp of chiming, jangly guitar pop. (Think, i.e., Tommy Keene.) All three albums were fairly consistent, if lacking in any truly breathtaking hooks that would make them rise above the power pop pack. All told, a solid hour's worth of tunes that, while perhaps best heard on a pop mix alongside other artists, are never less than reliably catchy.

I was really pleased to see this band feature. I think their first LP is marginally their strongest. It took me a while to appreciate their last LP and I had no idea they'd broken up, though I thought they'd been rather quiet of late! Anyone who likes power pop will enjoy them.

Geoffrey Holland would be asking you for a copy of this if he were still around.

I believe I was the first person to use these guys on an AOTM mix (early 2002), so I really should be familiar with their work. Nice job!

Meant to say "more" familiar with their work, which makes me sound less like a smart ass than I already am ;)
