A second offering from doowad and me (Strange Loop).Theoretically, we were alternating between songs about relationships gone bad and natural disasters, but it got a little random after a point. The number of songs just kept rising like the floodwaters many of them mention and we got into some cool little grooves until finally cresting at a double CD, 156 minutes or so.The mix itself flows like the Mighty Mississip' from country blues to bluegrass to jazz and back `round again, with a few unexpected turns along the way. And as these things tend to do, it was wrapped up like a failed marriage with the low moaning of Tom Waits.

Wow! Love the title and the artwork is breathtaking. Song selection is topnotch as expected although I am surprised that Ry Cooder's Alimony didn't make the cut. Thematically brilliant. Really reinforces the notion there is no disaster more natural than men and women trying to live together.

This is absolutely fantastic! I don't see a single stinker in the bunch, and that's saying a lot. But damn, that is the LARGEST picture on AotM ever. I'm sure of it.

I get exhausted just reading the track list. What an undertaking this was!For those curious about the Mickey Rooney photo, before the final order was decided, I was given the challenge of linking the Mickey Rooney track to Charley Patton. Here's how that works:The link had to be a blues track and it had to be about disaster. Mickey Rooney voiced a character in Pete's Dragon along with Red Buttons. Mr. Buttons starred in "The Longest Day" about D-Day of course. The obvoius choice was the Honeyboy Edwards track "Build Myself A Cave" about hiding from the draft and the "Japs" as he says.To top it off, I found the picture of Mickey Rooney in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" to really bring it all together. And that's how you handle a curveball like a Mickey Rooney song! : )
