Comment:

The final disc. Yes, I've skipped tons of his albums after Hawks & Doves. This does not mean that I hate every one of them (although I think a few are awful), but it *does* mean that I don't think there are tons of tracks from 1981-the present that stand up to his first decade of recording. Last tracks cut from this disc: "Transformer Man," "Surfer Joe & Moe the Sleaze," "Good to See You Again," "Comin' Apart at Every Nail," "Rockin' in the Free World (acoustic)," "My My Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)," "Love to Burn," "Change Your Mind" and "Hangin' on a Limb." Thanks to Shawn and to doowad for help with track 12.

Powderfinger, Crime in the City, Thrasher are all classics, though I would have left one of the versions of Rockin in the Free World (despite being used to promote college football) and My My Hey Hey, but that is just me. His version of Country Home is also a choice cut.

No room for one of my fave Neil tracks 'Mansion On The Hill' but I can live with that.

Once again, I concur with you on the relative merits of his post-1980 work. I view Reactor as the final album of his classic period (not a great album, but his last one before the whole Geffen debacle, and I'd actually include more of it than you chose to, particularly "Southern Pacific." His 80s work was largely awful, though I enjoy parts of Trans, and I've never bothered compilign it into a mix. I did make myself a 2-cd mix of highlights from the 90s, and it's actually a pretty solid collections. Most of those albums, unlike some of his 80s drek, had a couple great songs each, a streak he broke with Are You Passionate, which gets my vote for worst Neil album ever.

Not the biggest Neil Young fan, which comes as a shock since I'm Canadian, but you've pretty much hit all the songs I like from him. Great collection.
