Comment:
Continuing with the series, this time with another high-profile Norwegian act. Emperor is arguably the best of the classic black metal acts, with their astounding mixture of accomplished musicianship and black metal grimness, laying their claim to fame with an absolute classic lp ("In the Nightside Eclipse") and a slightly-overrated sophomore album ("Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk", which is represented here by only one cut but, believe me, is a great record, just a notch below ITNE). I believe this cd, including my favorite Emperor songs, covers pretty well their short lifespan as a group and their evolution. Last tracks cut: plenty! I even thought about expanding it to a 2 cd set... "Night of the Graveless Souls [demo]," "Moon Over Kara-Shehr," "Wrath of the Tyrant [demo]," "The Ancient Queen," "In Longing Spirit," "The Loss and Curse of Reverence," "The Acclamation of Bonds," "With Strength I Burn," "The Source of Icon E," "The Eruption," "The Prophet," "In the Wordless Chamber," "He Who Sought the Fire" and "Thorns in My Grave." Yes, all the tracks from "Prometheus" were considered for inclusion.
