Comment:
More of my music travels. This was late June 2015, a few weeks after the previous one I submitted. As always, the combination of songs can be incongruous but this is where my head and ears were at at the time, and I was loving every moment of it. Some notes:
- "Images of Heaven" I found from an AV Club article highlighting it
- "Something from Nothing" I didn't realize I liked so much when I first heard the album last year, but radio replays sold me
- "2,000 Light Years Away" is a Green Day cover
- "Revolution", "Makin' Sunshine", and "Kukuxumusu" were long buried in my iTunes and I came across them during shuffle sessions
- summer just feels like a good time for Rick Springfield
- Sugar Stems are a great little power pop band that I wish more people knew about
- I wasn't a big fan of Hilary Duff's album but "Confetti" includes a "Heaven is a Place on Earth" sample and makes some neo-pop bliss out of it
- "Lava" is from that animated short before the film "Inside Out". The titular wordplay itself is kind of annoying but the song sounds exactly like Israel K.'s famous "Over the Rainbow" medley, so I surrender immediately to its beauty
- Third Eye Blind's new album is pretty solid, I gotta say
- that KISS song is just plain rad. I don't have the least bit respect for them as rockers. I just like them for their big fun anthems and this one's on par with "Rock 'n' Roll All Nite" and "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You" (maybe the key is throwing "rock 'n' roll" into the chorus)...
