Comment:

I made this mix for my friend Chad's birthday. He really loves music and I thought it would be a good thing to compile all of the songs that he's been obsessed by over the years and put them all together. Basically, all of the songs that I think of when I think of him, or make me think of him when I hear them. Only a couple here don't fit the bill precisely, like the Oasis track, which I put on because he had mentioned that my hair looked like the Gallagher's, or the Housemartins track, which I thought he'd probably just enjoy singing along with. Most of the others have stories, mostly related to drinking (Man on the Corner would be put on late at our high school parties, one night we stayed up until "about a quarter 'til three" and listened to Cigarettes and Coffee, singing Piano Man in the piano bar in the New York, New York hotel in Vegas -sadly gone, now), some just songs he obsessed on (Solsbury Hill, Captain of her Heart, Sunny), and others, just songs he's liked. I figured out that he likes a song with a good backbeat and a shuffle-y sound over the top. Biggie? Just a song he'd sing while on leave from the Navy, something he was exposed to there that he wouldn't have been otherwise. I gave it to him and had him listen to it in front of me, without the track listing, so I'd get his reaction pure from hearing each song. It was awesome. Happy birthday, Chad.
