Comment:

When speaking of the foundations of heavy metal, a number of big names typically come up. Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Blue Cheer, Pentagram. All classics, and all amazing in their own right. However, the purpose of this mix was to bring to light some of the lesser known contemporaries of these well known bands. All of these tracks came out between 1968 and 1972 or so. My favorite is the Flower Travelling Band cover of Black Sabbath, where they actually slow the tempo down. Fucking brutal, when put in its historical context.

Good Gawd! This far surpasses my expectations from the title! Half of this is stuff that I've been looking for & the rest is unknown to me, but will probably soon be added to my wish list.

I adore the Flower Travellin' Band! Cool to see 'em on a mix.

Splendid, splendid. I was loosely contemplating a mix along roughly similar lines the other day, but you've obviously got some obscure stuff that I don't have (Budgie and Iron Butterfly are the only ones here I even recognise).

Looks interesting... I've only heard of half of these. I'd like to hear this.

DAMN! I've only heard of a handful of these, Sir Lord Baltimore's been one of my favorites lately. I'd love to hear this, and I will definitely be seeking out some of these records in the future. Kudos! This one's going on my favorite's list, just so I can reference it in future.

Thanks...I appreciate the comments. I'm in the process of putting together a second volume. It takes time, as most of this stuff is really, really hard to find. But that's what makes it fun, eh? Expect some Icecross, Bubble Puppy (pre-Demian), Iron Maiden (the late 60s doom one, not the NWOBHM one), Necromandus, and more Bang.
