Comment:

In the early '60s, the folk scene that flowered in New York's Greenwich Village was powered by a generation fed up with prefabricated pop — a generation that yearned for an honest, "authentic" sound that spoke to the soul. Pumped up on rough-and-tumble Woody Guthrie Dust Bowl ballads like "Hard Traveling," and "message" songs like "If I Had a Hammer" by Woody's pals the Weavers, the new folkies from Simon & Garfunkel to Ian & Sylvia hit the coffeehouses around Bleecker and MacDougal armed with acoustic guitars and trusty old tunes. But when Peter, Paul And Mary took folk to the masses by adding their honeyed harmonies to "Blowin' in the Wind," a new folk ballad by some skinny kid named Dylan, the world blew wide open.

In Next Steps, you'll find blues rebirths and reasons to believe.
