This is an awe-inspiring mix. Deathly good. If I've got anything of interest, I'd love to trade for this.

This is great, great stuff: wonderful music and fascinating background on these songs. "Poor Ellen Smith" and "Ommie Wise" are personal favorites. I'm not familiar (yet!) with A'nt Idy Harper's version of the latter, but I'm always haunted by the way G. B. Grayson's version (the one on Harry Smith's "Anthology of American Folk Music") trails off so matter-of-factly.

A truly great mix. A brilliant cover, and copious, informative and interesting liner notes. If this doesn't get mix of the week I'm a monkey's uncle.

An outright amazing mix. Thanks especially for the history of all the songs. I might have included Leadbelly's "Where did you sleep last night" with its haunting "His head was found in a driving wheel
But his body never was found..." But you have an incredible collection of songs here.

As a raving fan of songs about killin', I can only say that this is absolutely amazing. If you want to trade--for killin' mixes or otherwise--just let me know. Also, have you heard the Sadies' version of Pretty Polly? Or the Stanley Brothers? They're both something.

Truly a magnum opus. And any mix with that Hasil Adkins song on it is bound for glory. Very great mix. My pick for mix of the week.

this is a book not a mixed tape. I would have done something stupid like put on "westfall" by Okkerville River". but then again I don't know anything about murders, and am horrable at researching anything. props onthemix.

Spectacular, as everyone said. "Stagger Lee" scares the shit out of me. I played it on the radio not so long ago and came very close to being fired. What makes that especially impressive is that they don't pay me in the first place.

As the surfers used to say " F--kin' A--, man! I can see you've done some time with Greil Marcus. Beck just did a cover of Stagolee on the "Tribute to Mississippi John Hurt" cd ... as the yogis say "I bow to the divinity within you."

Great Mix! Just last night I was getting songs together to complete a mix with the same theme. My friend came across this and sent it to me, completely ruining my lunch! The only song I'd add would be Darlin' Corey. Another great murder song.
Would you care to trade?
