Comment:

Most Floyd fans tend to fall into 2 camps: Those who prefer their classic concept albums (Dark Side, Wish, Animals, Wall) and those who think the band ceased to matter once Syd Barrett permanently departed reality. Johnny Rotten's "I Hate Pink Floyd" notwithstanding, I still manage to get some enjoyment out of their dour epics as well as the groundbreaking Barrett era. But I also like their less-respected in-between period, when they put out some decent (if less than riveting), understated, folkie balladry. This mix compiles most of the vocal tracks from More, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Obscured by Clouds, Zabriskie Point, and Ummagumma (omitting the side-long "Echoes" and a couple harder rocking numbers that were out of place here).

Nice one. Meddle and Atom Heart Mother are personal faves (besides Piper and A Saucerful of Secrets that is).

I likes it!! I remember Fearless being my personal theme song at one point. I'm not sure why.

"Fearless" is a beautiful song.

This is great...there are times I wish they'd done an album of this sort of thing as opposed to filling it up with the kind of tomfoolery you hear on Atom Heart Mother and More.

I like this period a lot and *definitely* want this mix. (I'm not much for the "dour epics", actually.) PLEASE set a copy aside for me. FYI, "Fat Old Sun" is easily one of my favorite Floyd tunes, with or without Syd, and "Grantchester Meadows" isn't a slouch, either.

This is pretty great - good picks from an easily overlooked time in their career. I lose interest soon after Barrett but there are great moments in between that time and the quick downward spiral in the 70s and beyond. I think you've captured many great songs here - I'd love a copy, too.

Happy to make copies. Please note that I did some editing to get all this onto one disc (i.e. fading out the rugby cheers at the end of "Fearless" and shortening some of the long fade-ins and -outs on songs like "Childhood's End" and "Grantchester Meadows."

Looks good. Add my name to the list of people who love "Fearless." So how do you do fade-ins and fade-outs when burning CDs. Is that something you can do on I-Tunes or do you use a different program?

Ion -- I've got an old version of Cool Edit which has some great .wav editing features. You can alter volumes of full or partial .wav files, including having portions of the track fade in or out. It's a pretty expensive program, but you can probably find a shareware/demo download somewhere online and try it out.

I'm sorry I missed this. The whole reason I love Floyd is because they excelled in almost all of my favourite genres whether it's prog, psychadelia, avant garde or folky stuff. The only one they haven't quite nailed is punk (now that would be interesting, eh?) Excellent mix, many of my faves are here.
