Comment:

A song by Peter Murphy that actually sounds upbeat? Yes, it's true. I'm especially proud of the little menage a trois of Astrud Gilberto to My Bloody Valentine to Tears for Fears. Yes, I know I broke the cardinal rule of mix making as defined by Rob in Nick Hornby's "High Fidelity": not only did I put an artist twice on one side, I did the same thing with the same artist on the other side for good measure. Some people can't get enough of Elvis--Costello, that is--and I was distraught over an unworthy boy at the time, so I think it was justified. Oh--and the inclusion of "Digging Your Scene" which is a good track--but I apologize to those Blow Monkeys fans out there, I tried to like at least one other song on "Animal Magic" and it was like pulling teeth--I just couldn't do it. It's funny how a mix is like a slice of history--I look back on the song titles in this one and realize that I was really quite conflicted...

those rules from high fidelity are bullshit, although in this specific case i tend to agree that putting the same artist on a tape twice in lame. sweet tape nonetheless...that dog, magnetic fields, my bloody valentine, and "head over heals" make for something i like to call "good times."

Another goodie! Especially like the Suddenly Tammy, Darling Buds, Magnetic Fields, the V.G. New Order cover and plenty else. Have you heard Ivy's cover of Digging Your Scene?

I do like the Ivy cover--It's pretty true to the original, but at the same time they manage to make it their own--I guess Dominique Durand sounds different (enough) than Dr. Robert!

Regarding Blow Monkeys - 'Limping For A Generation' is the album to own, featuring Man from Russia. Dr Robert was okay. Regarding Pete Murphy - did u like Bauhaus? I like this barring the inclusion of Level 42 - but then Level 42 may not have the same disgust level in The USA as they do in the UK (big sorrys to their 42 fans) - good, eclectic mix.
