Comment:

I was a sophomore and she was a senior, but she seemed so amazingly right. Exhibit a) Shared my intense love of "This American Life" b) Knew Elvis Costello's real name; owned all his albums c) Had an ease and warmth of personality that made you just want to be there.

And she was amazingly right. What was wrong was meeting her just a few months before her graduation, after which she would move to France. I still had two more years left in college. And we both knew that such a fledgling friendship would be hard to maintain from a distance, despite our best intentions to keep in touch.

We exchanged mixtapes at one time. I've forgotten the contents of mine, but this is the one she gave me. And it's really something. This music was definitely selected by an old soul. I wouldn't have guessed that it was made by someone just two years older than me. There's a comfortable feeling about the tape. This mix isn't about being obscure. Even your non-hipster friends will recognize many of the tracks (VU, Beatles, Janis). But then, even your hipster friends will admit to the greatness of these songs.

90 Minutes, hardly a clunker in the bunch. For playing when I want to feel just a little older and a little wiser.

Any girl that knows Costello's real name is a keeper. Love the VU, YLT, Bjork, and, of course, Declan Patrick McManus. Ciao!

Always been partial to that INXS track. Not sure if I'm hip, but I dig the tape.

Wow... nice stuff. If you like that Annie Lennox track, check out "Medusa," the album it's from. It's one of my favorites.
