Brilliant stuff - like sport!, was thinking about this sort of thing after the new Mojo - I think I like the first CD marginally more, but there are many, many great picks on both.

Very comprehensive. Bear makes a good point. Who is singing Baghdad Blues? Makes me wonder how long those boys will be stuck there. In any case, step one: get W the fuck out of the White House.

Congrats on MOTW well done.
It's a shame however, that there is a need to revisit this stuff with so much current relevance instead of a piece of history......"This summer I hear the drumming..."

Thank you. This is great. And long live the mighty Phil Ochs. It's amazing that we're seeing political evolution in the making - never before have there been so many chickhawks making war. If their own children would have to fight, it would be a different story. Truthfully, I"m exhausted with all of my shouting these past months - I don't think anyone is listening.

Thanks to jkj for MOTW honors and to all the commenters for your kind words and support! Contrast this list of songs with what you can hear on most radio stations today. In the 60s local radio stations played anti-war songs every day. Today, consolidation of media ownership by corporations such as Clear Channel and Cox Radio can lead to dropping the Dixie Chicks from national playlists because of an offhand anti-Bush comment. Administration-friendly media conglomerates have stifled political discourse and homogenized programming. An artist with a divergent viewpoint can seldom reach a mass audience. What's that Mussolini quote about fascism being a merger of state and corporate power? I'm pissed too.

Well done on MOTW. I remember there was some anti-war stuff on this site last year and it got pounced on by some meatheads saying we had to 'support Bush' and 'get rid of Saddam'. They and the rest of the pro-war faction seem to have gone a bit quiet recently...

This is it! Can't say it any better than this. it's just too bad in several senses that we're reduced to recycling 60's protest, the times they aren't a changin as much as we might wish.
