Comment:

This is a mix I made a girl named Sarah for her birthday this year. Her birthday is actually Oct. 30, so I kind of put a few vaguely Halloween-themed songs in, along with some birthday-themed ones... But essentially, I was trying for something catchy that she'd probably like, without knowing anything at all about her music tastes. I started out with songs I think fit into a specific style of poppy, twangish, almost-giddy energy, then at around the half-way mark of Aphex Twin's parents singing him happy birthday, I went for stuff with a more universal appeal. Great single cuts, in other words. The only things I knew about her musical tastes were that she liked They Might Be Giants, liked Death Cab For Cutie, and had never heard of The Pixies but liked what brief snippets of songs I played for her.

I like the Pavement-Spoon-Yo La Tengo passage in particular.
