Comment:

Tough to condense this - the original version was nearly twice as long. A tribute to all things Nesmith, focusing on his melancholy-filled country rock. I'm sure I've forgotten some early gems - I wanted to focus on my favorite Nesmith-penned tunes from the Monkees.

I was about to say something about a Gram Parsons thing.. and then it occured to me.. there are plenty o people to do that now.. and then I read the name of the author of the compilation and it all became clear. Man... the cats at Rhino need to hire you.. that is assuming that they dont snoop around here already.. killer.

I totally ignorned them for a while because I thought they were some novelty act, but my stance has changed. Great mix.

This looks very good. My favorite Monkeey's tune is "Shades Of Gray"

well done. I had always thought of the monkeys as a novelty act - I will rethink and go and investigate based on this and all the learned comments.

Hey gang - just so you know - the first 8 songs are proper Monkees tracks. The remaining ones are from Nes's first 6 solo albums.

This is fantastic. I've been waiting for you to do this for a long time... and now I'm waiting for a copy. (YES, I want a copy of this, so please burn promptly my friend...)

Looks great. Personally, I think the Monkees were a fantastic band, even beyond the more artistically credible Nesmith tracks -- sure, even if the albums were the creations of professional songwriters and backing musicians, who cares if the songs are great? And I agree; Nesmith had some great, underappreciated gems with the band (including several you don't include here, like "You Told Me," "You Just May Be The One," and "What Am I Doing Hanging Round"). I'm much less familiar with his solo work, though this looks like a great way to learn the highlights. A fine tribute to a sterling songwriter.

Great job Sean. I love the Monkees, I love Mike, I love What Am I Doing Hanging Round and I love this mix. I also agree perfectly with Marc. Finally I would love to trade for this.

Oustanding job Sean. (He's all too easily brushed aside as if he cannot-and should not, be taken even half-serious. Those that do suffer a loss.)

I always thought Davy Jones was the thinking man's Monkee. Live and learn. Great work, guitar man.

Excellent work, Sean. I think that Nesmith and The Monkees have been somewhat neglected in my listening, but this has definitely inspired me to rectify that! :)

I've been meaning to investigate Mike's solo stuff, as he's always been my favorite Monkee by a longshot. Would you be interested in trading for this?

i love him to death. Listen to the Band is marvelous, and Tapioca Tundra is one of the most perfect recordings i've ever heard. everything is done right on it. too bad Daily Nightly woulda interrupted the flow of the disc with Micky vocals... i appreciate a mix like this greatly
