Comment:
This time of year seems to be top-heavy with lists: Wish lists, Resolutions, Naughty vs. Nice, The Best [high/low/pop culture category of your choice] of the Year, etc. In honor of this, my annual audio holiday card is a mix of songs featuring lists: lists of bands, dances, cities in West Virginia, people who passed on during Jim Carroll's youth,, things that can be put into cups, controlled substances, attributes of Barbie dolls, etc. I've studiously avoided that god-awful Billy Joel song and "My Favorite Things" - and how did a song that mentions winters melting into springs end up being marketed as a Christmas carol anyway?
Title from the opening cut, which is from a 1990 production of The Mikado, in which the obligatory up-dated verse already sounds more dated than anything else in the song.
Happy holidays everyone.
[Note - this is actually a rehash of a mix I made last Dec 24, too late to be last year's holiday card]
Feedback:
This would make my "best mixes of 2005" list. Happy holidays, Jen!
ah gee, this is cute! and so many great tunes.
nice list and my best to you out there!!!
Excellent. Although one of my favorite list songs is missing: "Hello" by the Beloved.
Very cute. Very cool. Super well-done. Let me know what I can send to get a copy.
Brown-paper mixes tied up with strings - these are a few of my favorite things!
What, no Mambo Number 5?
This is a darn good theme. Nice mix for Christmas, Liszt.
Nothing by Franz Liszt? ;) This mix is on my want list, as I could give you 24 reasons why I want to hear it!
Brilliant theme. I'll give it foive.
Excellent idea for a mix! Loads of great choices as well - especially 88 Lines... and California Girls.
excellent fun. Ian Dury is so cool, so underrated and so under-represented on AOTM.
A great idea Jen, and full of songs i have yet to hear. Off to check them out then...
Cool mix. Couldn't help but notice the natal libations all over this site, so happy birthday! Now that I think of it, your mixes do seem rather Aquarian!
