Comment:

They remain a beloved cornerstone in their native Australia. They are admired in Britan and puzzled over as a "one hit wonder" in America. The Easybeats created an exhilarating pop-rock sound filled with compelling structure and dynamics during the mid to late sixites. The Easybeats (Dick Diamonde, Snowy Fleet, George Young, Harry Vanda and Stevie Wright) were all sons of parents who'd emigrated to Australia (although Diamonde and Vanda were Dutch). By the time they headed for England in mid-1966 they'd had four hit records in Australia. Their albums were a curious mixture of pop-rock songs and mildly psychedelic offerings. When Paul McCartney heard the Easybeats "Good Times" on the radio in 1968 he stopped his car to ring the BBC demanding they play it again. Lou Reed has declared "Falling off the Edge Of the World" is "one of the most beautiful records ever made." The band crumbled in a stoned haze in 1970. Vanda and Young formed Band Of Hope and then Flash & the Pan before concentrating on production work and songwriting masterminding the success of AC/DC for whom Young's brothers Angus and Malcolm were guitarists.

Cool. The more I hear by the Easybeats, the more I like them.

Looks great Tom. Thanks to trades made through this site, I've been exposed to three Easybeats' songs, and all of them were fantastic. Could you save me a copy for future trading purposes?

Typically, I prefer the snotty nah nah nah nah's to their poppier stuff. Regardless, a fine addition to the archives. Where would Oz rock be without the Youngs?

Excellent compilation on an outstanding, and-as you say, little-known/misunderstood band here......I have two friends who measure your musical knowledge/taste by your familiarity with the Easybeats! (..and I personally LOVE the latter Flash & the Pan output by Vanda & Young!)Aussie! Aussie!

Great mix, Tom. I love these guys. I second lo-fi's remarks, though, about preferring their more garage-y stuff...

Fantastic. While I've only lived in Aus for a couple years now, I can say that they still are loved.

"Friday" and "Sorry" are among the greatest singles of all time - but then you knew that. I am a little disappointed that ELP didn't make the cut for the eE encyclopedia. Ah well, there's always version 3.0, eh? (PS. That's just a remark to irk Rob, but don't tell him that.)

Sean, I know how could I choose The Easybeats over such selections Mussorgsky set with immortal words by Greg Lake "Death Is Life."

I'm sure it was a hard choice, but that's what makes you an ace music lover. How about this... an all-ELP mix, with no song under 10 minutes?
