The usual Mondo mix of groovy soundz for aural relief. Great for surfin porn or makin’ out. For those who wish to make this mix, I suspect all tracks are readily available for download from wherever …

Enjoy.
Enjoy.
THIS ONES FOR JACK KEROUAC 1922-69
Comment:
Anyone who knows Kerouac will need no explanations to the choices I made. Jazz being a primary influence on Kerouac’s style. Born 1922, Lowell, Massachusetts. Died 1969.On The Road published 1957
Kerouac debated suing the Producers of Route 66 for stealing much of the plot & situations from On The Road. He also didn't like the fist fights that Buz and Tod got into.
Kerouac was a big fan of Sinatra.
Johnny Staccatto was a Jazz Pianist who took on detection for extra bread,
‘…what Johnny had and still has most of all is hipness. Real hipness. Beat hipness. Jack Kerouac hipness exemplified by a guy in a suit. ‘ (Ed Gorman)
The Subterraneans was and is (?) the only Kerouac novel transferred to the big screen and starred George Peppard & Leslie Caron. ‘ Entirely misses the point of Beat Philosophy…it does at least offer an evocative atmosphere, along with a generous helping of Jazz…’ (Radio Times Guide To Movies)
The Beat Girl offered early roles to Oliver Reed (thug) & Christopher Lee (sleazy strip club owner)…an anglo interpretation of Beatnik - Adam Faith in leather jacket & obligatory stripey t-shirt, speaking hip jive with a cockney accent and lazily strumming his guitar. It did, however, feature a superb score by John Barry.
Feedback:
Great idea, great mix!
Where's the French-Canadian connection? Jack's mother was Canadian, and Kerouac was born Jean-Louis Kerouac. Just opens other musical doors, I guess. Awesome mix, as usual, Dom.
I'm well aware of his French/Canadian roots but this is not a kerouac bio but a mix inspired and for :)...also I can't say my collection is full of French/Canadian music:)
i love this.
Great!
Looks pretty swell.
YES. Absolutely to-die-for, fantastic, tremendous, etc. I may actually want a copy of this, cassette or no cassette. Whaddya think? (Btw, I still LOVE Kerouac.)
Nice mixture! (No "Beatnick Fly" by Johnny & The Hurricanes?!!) I didn't know he was a big Sinatra fan - it reminds me of the Dexys Midnight Runners lyric: "Keep quoting Cabaret, Berlin, Burroughs, J.G. Ballard, Duchamp, Beauvoir,
Kerouac, Kierkegard, Michael Rennie, and I don't believe you really like Frank Sinatra."
Kerouac, Kierkegard, Michael Rennie, and I don't believe you really like Frank Sinatra."
need i say, great driving music?
Wow! Outstanding mix, Sir!
Awesome mix.
Love it
Very, very nice.
Nothing short of superb.
Another intelligent tribute, D. Stunning.
Damn you! I just read On The Road for the first time and was planning a Jack Kerouac album. But, depite the fact that you got there ahead of me, I really love this album.
What -- no "Neil & Jack & Me" by King Crimson????Quite fine, Dom! Very inspired!
Fantastic Dom! Gotta have the bebop for this. Even though Route 66 show was a watered down version palatable for all the Beaver Cleaver households at the time (mine included), I have always loved the Route 66 theme song. Lalo Shiffrin? I forget. Also a snippet of someone (Ginsburg?) reading Howl might have been nice. Every time I am in SF I step into City Lights bookstore to pay homage. Are you producing cds yet? What can I send you for this? Steve
I always loved the book 'Dharma Bums'. Great mix.
