This is a follow-up to a mix I put together exactly five years ago. (How time flies!) I stumbled across most of these tracks via those on-line recommendation doo-dads.Happy New Year!

Comment:
It's that time of year again. Time for the Third Annual Art of the Mix Statistical Waste of Time! The analysis of your painstaking work has been compiled and stored in the MFOOZ databank. For the second time, the top tunes have yielded a mix, which you see here. (See the 2004 mix.)
Many of the movers are courtesy of the O.C. and Garden State soundtracks. The kids are all right. They're just a little depressed.Nineteen of the top twenty are available on iTunes. I had to resort to my vinyl for the Smiths track. (How primitive!)
Well done in 2005, mixers! I wish you a productive and artful 2006.

Feedback:
Good stuff on here.
Jesus yeah, 2005 the year of the Great Depression!!! Some great tracks though obviously. Thanks for the stats. :)
Looks like a perfect soundtrack for a Chuck Klosterman reading, Starbucks drinkin', self-absorbed college hipster. Just kidding! Fantastic job again, Saaf. I never knew I made so many comments on mixes!
I love to read those statistics. Thank you!
Thanks for making these stats available. Reading through the names on this mix make me realize that I am not well connected to the AotM mainstream. Even though I recognize most of the artist names I only know a handful of the songs.
What a week hey Saaf? The first mix of the week of the year ( does that make sense?! ) and now this. As a lover of statistics in music i've been enthralled for a good hour in Art of The 2005. Thankyou for bringing these stats to our attention, lord knows how long it took. Well done to Dom1 and Moe for their pole positions aswell, much deserved.
Another good job Saaf in the world of statistics - thanx for taking the time.
Thanks for doing this. I've spent the past hour looking over the stats you posted. Really puts the year in perspective.
awwwww such a good mix, hah!
Like the night of the living Dead Man said, thanks for doing this. You're definitely going to get an A in statistics this semester! Are you sure it isn't the Floaters' version of "Float On" that got the number five ranking? I'm Moe, and I'm a Leo.
My money is on "The Peanut Vendor" for this year. Pretty cool project. How do you do it?
Must have taken a lot of work.
This is great - many thanks for this. I didn't know that TV On the Radio track had been used so much, but that's no bad thing at all.
Wow! This is way cool. Thanks for putting it together. I think some of us mixers are going to bookmark this.
Moe, I was really excited about the Floaters as well!! Once again, GREAT work and it's much appreciated!
Thank you for all your efforts. I think I have used 6 of these songs at one time or another.
Cancer my names Cliff plagiarise Moe. I was so hoping you'd find time to compile these stats Lennart, merci beaucoup for all that effort and what a great mix it makes.
I do like 'Such Great Heights'- keep hearing it in odd places recently! Well done and thanks for the stats.
Thanks again for the stats. Always an interesting read.
that's what i like about these things, no matter how hard i attempt to be in on the nw and up and coming, i never seem to fit the mold ;>( nice work Lenny!
Very interesting. And much appreciated.
mega uber excellent job in putting all this together . . . very much appreciated. Good cover too - I'll probably steal the idea . . .
As always, thanks for putting in the time to create a totally absorbing and utterly useless (and thus cool) analysis. Yes, we are all weenies, and proud. As for the list, I'm glad to know that about half my taste is totally hip (as defined by AOTM popularity), yet I manage to be largely out of the loop (with a quarter of these being utterly unfamiliar). For my dollar, the more interesting stats are the older tracks that maintain popularity (Smiths, Joy Division, Cure, Buckley -- my, we ARE a depressed bunch). Query whether such 2005 mix essentials like "Float On," "Mr. Brightside," and "Take Me Out" will still be kicking around five years from now. I'd wager that "New Slang" will be a mix favorite for years to come, but less sure of the others.
Fascinating...and bravo. Big fan of the Useless Info Dept type stuff.
Bravo to the assist in our obsessions-music & statistics about same! Hail Saaf!
Damn... I'm only familiar with Jeff Buckley's track.
some f%#king good sh!t here
These songs are mostly greek to me since I'm usually hanging out in the '60s, but thanks for your efforts (you've given me a New Years resolution: to comment on mixes more).
Yeah, its great that you do this.
Blech. Is Jeff Buckley ever going to go away?
How do you DO that??
Do you keep it all in your head, or do you cheat & use a paper & pencil to total up the stats?

QUOTE: 4 & 5! I like it.Were you asking for mp3's of tracks four and five from my mix? Thanks for the comment on it BTW - mucho appreciated. :*)~
