- The Nerves
- , this as an album of post-Nerves recordings made by Paul Collins and Peter Case prior to the formation of Collins' group The Beat. Its poppy, a little reminiscent of The Jam or some of the other pop / punk bands from the late 70s early 80s. Despite lumping them into a giant pool like this...I think The Nerves were maybe a few years ahead of their time. Either way, all four of these songs are fun, timeless, and I'm glad I found them. you can hear all 4 from their EP HERE ...

- The Summer Jam of the Summer 2010!
- Finally, right? It's September and it's time to stop blathering on about summer jams. Starting next week - Autumn Jams! Seriously though, didn't want to let the warm days and hot nights slip away without one last jam, the jam of all jams even. The radio pop has been amazing this year (despite what some may say), the hip hop has been solid, and there's been loads of excellent indie pop too, but the one song that's stuck with me the longest, held on to me the tightest, and made me feel ...

Not quite as good as The Kinks' original version but The Jam's is pretty great, too. Plus, you get a Bruce Foxton vocal. Mark Eric - Take Me With You If you're a Beach Boys fan, you should hear Mark Eric's lone record, "A Midsummer's Daydream." No word yet on any political plans for Bono, although he and his band are currently conquering Europe on their U2 360° Tour. Blair writes about other musicians in A Journey, including The Jam's Paul Weller and Billy Bragg, who campaigned for the politician and his party in the 1980s. "It was great," he wrote. - KROKODIL "An Invisible World Revealed" (Krautrock, 1971) by Sean Trane
- the good Second Battle label reissued it legitimately in nice digipak, they found three bonus tracks; the first of which, Pollution, fits the album's rockier songs' mould. Two lengthy 11-mins+ Krokodil -Session tracks are also tacked on, both recorded a tad louder than the rest of the album. Obviously the jam had already started a while ago when the tapes started rolling and we get a wild and half-improvised slightly jazzy loose rock track ala Grateful Dead. - The Dream Syndicate's Sophomore Album Stereo Blues (Features)
- Is Medicine Show a blueprint for all that was wrong with bands signing to major labels 25 years ago or is it a truly great, overlooked gem of an album? Well, the answer is somewhere in the middle.Bands face a challenge when it comes to following up a successful debut album. - licks and undeniable influence of the Police on "Never Know." The tune might not have worked without the raggedly jittered opener "Timebomb", though, a song that would follow more in the wake of the Jam and immediately sets things in intense physical motion. Likewise, "Feels Like Running" follows with the dark and gloomily drenched vocals that would gesture more towards Echo & the Bunnyman or even the Cure - in other words, haunted, but with as much a familiar pop edge as a doomed morbidity. - Karnivool Interviewed on The Aquarian Weekly
- was just myself and [singer Ian] Kenny and it was the first album that we'd really ever written and it was predominantly us. So, you know, when we started writing for Sound Awake we jumped in the jam room together and we were just, sort of instantly, just gelling together. Especially, Steve [Judd, drums] and Jon [Stockman, bass], cause I had played drums previously, so this was the first time we'd ever written together in a room. Sort of, feeding off each other's energy and that kind of shit. So ... 's certainly a big sound to it. Yeah, the collective vibe is there. We were all just throwing a bit of ourselves into the pot. When you come up with something in the jam room, there's no better feeling—to me, when you all just look at each other and just have that moment of magic. When you're by yourself, you're coming up with a riff sitting there just sort of patting yourself on the back and like, "yeah, well done Drew, that's awesome?" When you've got other people to get excited with—that just sort ...

- , to compete with The Who and The Jam and The Vandellas. Still, The Shames' version is interesting. The chiming, Byrds-y 12-string guitar is a nice touch and I can imagine how fun this must have been to hear when they played it in some basketball gym in the Chicago suburbs of 1966. When it comes to the Cryan Shames, I think they're a pretty underrated group. Their version of "Sugar and Spice" is my favorite of them all and some of their other songs, like "I Want To Meet You" and "We Could Be Happy ...

- A Convo with !!!: The Weather is Just Fine, Actually
- . I would have liked to have done the whole thing there, but that's just not the reality of who we are. FILTER: Which elements were recorded in Berlin? OFFER: The main thing we were doing in Berlin was writing. The general way we write is through jamming and we jam straight to the computer. So anytime the jam gets really hot, then we have it. Most of the stuff you hear from Berlin on the record is stuff we couldn't do again. FILTER: How does a new environment affect the songwriting process ... in disco and house. There's no denying that it really creeped in. FILTER: Which particular elements from the Berlin music scene inspired you? OFFER: The minimalism of it was inspiring and it's always an important thing to remember when you're jamming to keep it simple—especially when you're playing with a full group of people. Keep it minimal and ultimately it'll end up maximal. But it also just influences you because you're there and, when you hit those points in the jam, it just sounds classical ... knew we were doing as far as mood wise... You just find what's there in the jam. Sometimes it's darker and sometimes it's lighter. It wasn't something we chose, the songs kinda choose you. FILTER: Does this album feel darker to you? OFFER: [Long pause] Yes. It definitely feels like it came from a bleaker time. Myth Takes was sort of a breakup record. Does it get any darker than that? It was a breakup that was good and felt like a release... Maybe this is more of a bitter record. FILTER: You have ...

- The Jam - Sound Affects (from bbc)
- With six released in five years, each one of the Jam's albums is a distinct stage on Paul Weller's journey from callow, Thatcher-supporting yoof to mature writer with more on his mind than just teenage angst and political disatisfaction. This, their fifth effort, often vies for the title of their best; the other candidate of course being 1978's All Mod Cons. But whereas AMC is a heady slice of proto-Britpop, wearing its sensitivity and social comment (and debt to the Kinks) like badges, Sound Af......

- The Jam - Direction Reaction Creation (from Pitchfork)
- It can be tough for Americans to understand just how huge the Jam were in Britain, given their near-total lack of success in the States, but here's an indication: After the group disbanded, all 16 of their UK singles were reissued by Polydor and all 16 of them re-charted at the same time. A year prior to that, the band managed to land an import single ("Just Who Is the 5 O'Clock Hero?") in the UK top 10. So in their day, they were legit superstars-- bigger stars than the Cla......

- The Jam - Snap! (from MusicOMH)
- Now that Paul Weller is an official 'elder statesman', as confirmed by his imminent Brit award for Outstanding Services To Popular Music, it's easy to forget just the impact he, together with Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler had on the music scene back in the late '70s. The Sex Pistols may have grabbed all the headlines, The Clash may have had the coolest image, but The Jam had the songs. They were a truly great singles band, a fact that Snap! underlines by gathering together all of the band's sing......

- The Jam - The Complete Jam (from Dusted Magazine)
- Since Paul Weller broke up the band over 20 years ago, there's been a relatively steady stream of Jam re-issues and compilations, but no video collections since 1983's Video Snap. Bundling Video Snap in its entirety with a wealth of additional material, this generous double DVD set goes some way toward redressing the balance.Although The Complete Jam is by no means complete, it certainly provides a solid overview of the group's musical evolution from their nervous television debut in 1977 as ......

- The Jam - The Jam At The BBC (from bbc)
- Twenty Five years after The Jam's first record release, this 3 CD collection focuses on what many saw as the most vital aspect of the group: its live output. It has been said elsewhere that despite Wellers fascination with 1960's soul music, The Jam were always at their core a blistering New Wave band throughout their live career and this collection proves that above any doubt. Dour, backward looking puritans to some, earnest champions of integrity to many others, The Jam always did things diffe......

- The Jam - All Mod Cons - Deluxe Edition (from bbc)
- This album is a must buy for any Paul Weller fan who salivated over his stonking performance at this years Brits, after he collected his Outstanding Contribution Award. All Mod Cons, released to wide acclaim in 1978, firmly cemented the group's rise to extraordinary heights. Indeed, for many it was the first essential Jam album and listening to it now its impact has not diminished over time. The album was the sound of an English youth movement and it marked a great leap forward in songwriting ma......

- The Jam - 45RPM: The Singles 1980-82 (from Launch)
- This, the second and final box-set of singles, covers The Jam's most successful and cohesive period, through their four Number One singles to their sad end. Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler's last nine singles, as with '1977-1979', come in an impressive fag box style package, featuring the original sleeve artwork and B-sides, plus a 16 page booklet. Seven of the CDs come with enhanced video tracks and it's all bloody marvellous! The second half of The Jam story kicks off with 'Going U......

- The Jam - 45rpm: The Singles 1977-79 (from Launch)
- To many, The Jam remain, quite simply, the most important band of their lives. And it all started in the late seventies when Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler emerged from the London suburb of Woking with bristling punk guitar, rumbling bass, powerhouse drums and plenty of sharp-suited, spiky-haired attitude. They may have been fired up by punk but Weller was a mod, with more of an interest in singing like Otis Redding than Johnny Rotten. And by the time The Jam's debut single, 'In The......
