10 Songs Blog Rules:

Before I go into the rules I want to give a HUGE thanks to Dave Morey who used to work for KFOG radio in SF. He helped me gain the musical history I have through his daily 10@10, which inspired this blog in many ways. Without him I wouldn't know half the artists I know and would not have musical curiosity for music history that I do.

So what is the 10 Songs Blog?

The '10 Songs Blog' is basically a forum for me to share music I love with you and vice versa based on weekly chosen themes.

Each week I'll post a new theme in the comments section of last weeks theme, as well as my about me profile to be presented the following week, for example 10 songs about the bathroom.

You can post links to your mixes on the weeks themes in the comments section of the current mix.

The following week I will pick my favorite mixtape submitted from last week’s theme. Winners usually have a mixtape that feels complete it begins and ends well and flows nicely from one track to the next and has variety is eras and styles. You can pander to my tastes if you wish but that doesn't guarantee a winning mix. As bonus "prize" there will be awards give to those who do not repeat a single song all year (different versions of a song are excluded but the must be by a different artist).

Any comments I make about the current weeks theme and my mixtape and song choices will be the first comment posted on the mix.

"Mixtape" Rules:

Title and artist must be present on all songs. Not, a big issue on here but if you upload anything just make sure you label the stuff right. And DO NOT put songs by you or your friends (unless your friend is Prince) on your mix for any reason... that is just tacky. Hock your wares elsewhere...

I should be able to hear the songs without too much hassle. Not a big deal here either but you do have to spell it for some folk or they'll just post a list of songs.

Post a link to your listenable mixtape in the comments section of the current mixtape theme you have created it for.  Note: fileden is free and easy way to upload songs you cannot find on-line to add to your mixpod mixtape.

Each mixtape must have exactly 10 different songs unless I say other wise in my weekly theme update.

The songs must pertain to the chosen theme. (Duh!)

Do not talk about other people's playlists in the comments section. This isn't a music discussion forum, this is like a really wacked out radio station. Keep it simple and clean so we all can easily find and listen to others mixes. Thank you.

You can suggest a mix idea but I have so many that unless it is really unique and promising I probably won't use it.

Optional:

Having wide and varied taste in music genres and some respect and knowledge for its history it helps make your mixes more interesting.

Explaining your choices (to be done after the link is posted in your comment box). Explanations are especially helpful if you post songs not in English so we listeners get a better idea what the song is about.

Now for a very brief about me about my musical background and tastes.

I like most genres of music save for most rap and hip-hop post 1995. In fact I generally dislike most American popular music after the 20thC, any MTV billboard top 100 stuff seems to bore me these days. I wasn't raised on much music so don't ask me how I came to love it so. Though my Grandfather was a radio star and my grandparents listened to all the big bands and musicals.

I love music of other countries.

I love women in music more than men. I am a bit of a femminist in this regard because women are so overlooked especially when it comes to composing music and playing instruments. How this got started is a long story that started with a femminist art history class.

My favorite decade of American popular music is the 80s (especially new wave). But will attest that it is not the best decade of music we produced that goes to the 20s-40s jazz and blues eras in my opinion.

I believe a well rounded musical appetite is very important to being a well rounded "complete" person. It has certainly made me more open to the world and to other people and cultures. And how any music lover not listen to opera or classical or blues or jazz or high life, bossa nova perplexes me but cest la vie, no?
