digging into the archives

I have 2 shelves in my closet where my old mixtapes are stored.from 1988-2003 I made mix tapes. In late 2003 I upgraded to CDs.Making a mix tape took about 2 days if I was lucky.Oh Im thankful I upgraded dont get me wrong but I remember the time and effort it took to make a mix tape.I was very careful about not leaving too much dead air between songs.Picking just the right song to follow the previos song was vital.

When we moved out of the old house I was told Id get a computer and that I would be doing CD mixes. At that time I was just becoming computer literate and learning how to email and to me it was like telling someone who was just learning to write to publish a book.It scared me.

Once I learned how to make and burn CD mixes It seemed so easy but like I said Im glad to took that step.Every now and then I go back into the archives and listen to those mix tapes. Many folks look at old photo albums.I listen to old mix tapes and hear and see my progress. In 1988-93 I just listed the song. From then on I listed the song and the artist and then I started to put a yellow highlighter over the artist.

During the late 1990s I was picking about sqeezing one last song on side two. This isnt easy.Sometimes it was elmer fudd say a thee thee thats all folks or the Beatles the end or goodnight. or yes the instrumental version of Amazing grace.Others were so long ,farewell from the sound of music.I took pain staking efforts to pick just the right song to close out the mix.Somwtimes Id hit it right on the nose timewise and othere times the song would be cut off at the last 10 seconds.

Ill be sharing some of these jewels from the past with you in the not to distant future and hope you enjoy them.

Groove on

Musically yours
