I love The Roots. What a very special, unique, and especially talented rap group. I decided to do a Roots mix because of the influx of Roots music I am listening to at the moment. They use live instruments in their live show which I really can get behind. They are the big stars on the philly rap scene. They come off as a pretty liberal band which is right up my alley. Also, they named one of their albums Things Fall Apart based directly on the boo of the same name, which I read in college.

Disclaimer: I made this mix when I was a teenager and it hasn't aged THAT well. Honesty, what the fuck was I smoking here? I mean my heart was in the giht place, pun intended, and most of these songs do in fact deal with the great notion of love and longing, but a few songs on here clearly do not belong. Some of these songs were inspired by girls I know and it's hard to forget them when listening to some of these songs. Love can be cool; I don't wanna hate on love all the time like in my last posted mixes. I am starting to now feel better from the piercing heartache of this last potential mate. In fact, yesterday was one of the best days of my life. I laughed a lot and I was with my close friends. I kissed a few girls and I got kissed by a few girls. Hot girls. Girls you would give your left arm to go out with. Yeah, that happens to me. Also, I get flirted with amost everywhere I go. Even at work. I can get girls. I just need some luck and a single woman. I am very fortunate and have had to pleasure of a few great women in my life. There's always some girl in my life and there will be until I find the One.

This was made for another friend, who was big into bands like The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Belle & Sebastian and all that (what passes for twee now, basically). So this was an intro to Sarah/DIY/C86. I made a ballin' hand-drawn booklet for this too. When I gave it to him, he said that he didn't have a way to play CDs. That bitch.

Lots ot get to so hear me out. This is probably the easiest mix I have put together in a long time. This took maybe a few days to put the songs together and choose songs. Why? Well, I have been having some lady troubles lately. No, I didn't actually go through a break up but I feel this collection of songs needs to be put in the pantheon of my past break up mixes. Basically I tried to date this girl I though liked me she broke 3 of our dates, with only 1 as a good reason. Not only that but on Sunday at the event we both chose to do, she brought lots of her friends, flirted with some of them right in front of me, and basically acted like she didn't even know me when she showed up, despite the fact that she told me she was gonna meet me there. This was in front of my friends too. She not only fucked me over, but she made it hurt even more. As a result, right now I have actual chest pain that is only happening around my heart area. This is true. She may be the only girl to actually make my heart hurt for real. Since Sunday, I have been in pretty jarring pain. So much so that I chose to go to both a pharmacist and a doctor to have this checked out. The only solace I can take from this is I tried hard to make her mine and that I chose to be with my friends over being with her at her house one night. It turned out to be the right call. here's a lot of back story for this particular mix. It was my senior year and I was looking for a date to the prom. I wanted to ask the one girl who I was very close with. Out of nowhere, she asked me to go to the prom with me, amazingly. I was so excited- I paid for both tickets, photos, and I bought her a dozen red roses in a box. I was going to knock her socks off. The prom was a disaster. She was late, the limo was very late, and pretty much it all went downhill after that. She was a complete bitch to me the entire night. She avoided talking to me the whole night, minus short replies. She ignored me and embarrassed me in front of my friends. It was awful. Our friends at the ta)ble could notice it too, it was errie. I spent the whole night either alone or bored or completely destroyed. That cunt did a number on me, on my dime. I would later turn this whole fiasco into a short story I wrote for college. "She Speaks To Me" pretty much sums it up- so much so it's scary! "In the mist of all the heartache, look for the roses" and "Did you find the roses?" This part reminds me of that prom night when she left the roses at my house and had to get them after the prom. She didn't know where they were. Also the part of "Why won't you SPEAK TO ME?" also hit home for me. "Roses" was a big single for Outkast at the time and this also is a bizarre coincidence. She was cold, "Cold As Ice". Atreyu and Bleeding Through were big around the creation of this mix so they are on her with damn appropriate songs. There's a lot of Glassjaw on here- they write great breakup songs, even though it wasn't a breakup. "Don't Stay" has lyrics that remind me of when this dumb chick came back to my house months later to see her friend (my sister). I made sure I kicked her out of my house. Another scary coincidence: the theme of my prom was Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) by Green Day. Billie Joe from Green Day said he wrote this after this girl he liked left him to go far away. This is not necessarily a happy song. This is the only mix I ever made that was specifically made because of one person. I sincerely hate her to this day. But whatever, because I bounced back and did better than her eventually. This mix was made as a bitter reaction to a devastating event that truly befuddles me to this day. Dumb bitch. I finally posted this mix in its entirety. I gave her a dozen roses just for her. I have only done that once in my life. This was made in 2004.

This is the FIRST break up themed mix cd I ever made. I made it when I was a young teen after I got my heart broken. I believe 2 girls inspired this mix. One was my first girlfriend and the other was her best friend. There's numerous tales I could share with you that would probably blow your mind and give you the urge to high five me and there are other details that would make you feel bad for me. Let's just say I was cheated on and then I was dumped. My first breakup was definitely painful since it lasted awhile; my longest relationship to date. Love doesn't always suck, but when ur in pain over it, it does.

I was inspired to create this mix after watching a wonderful indie film from last year entitled "Guy and Madeline On A Park Bench." It's sort of an indie mumblecore musical, of sorts. Think John Cassavetes' 'Shadows' meets John Carney's 'Once' Anyway, if you can find it, I highly recommend it. Absolutely fun and beautiful.

Here's to the spring semester, hoping it's better than the last and that I make it through alive again, but just barely, because that makes for better stories. I stayed up until 1am with my four roommates (yes, I share a room with four other people) drinking wine and smoking ganja and eating raspberries and cheese. We had in depth discussions about politics and human nature and family. This is good. It may not last, but while it does, it is good. This pack of cigarettes I have is all stale and only halfway gone. The taste is all off. I'm miffed, and maybe it's a sign, or like, a bad omen. But holy hell I hope not. Since when can I not post youtube links? Only mp3 links now? Bullshit. Oh well. Soz.

This was the mix the re-got me into making mixes. My best friend had moved away to Denver the previous year, and I planned to visit him during the summer of 2009. We're both pretty steeped in music, so I wanted to make him a mix of everything new I was listening to at the time. I made sure to include a little of everything from my known stable of preferred genres: pop punk, hip hop, and electronic. At the time, I was also starting to get heavily into gaming soundtracks, which is why I chose to include cuts from games like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (the El Dorado remix), Assassin's Creed (Flight Through Jerusalem), and Battlefield: Bad Company (Battlefield Theme). Many of my favorite artists are featured on this mix (Fall Out Boy, Goodnight Sunrise, The Roots, Little Brother), but got a bit caught up in the "make it new" aspect, and included several tracks from acts that I'm only partially into at best (Valencia, Destiny Worldwide). Still, I'm very satisfied with this mix, if only because of how vividly I can recall the drive down to Denver. It was never meant to relaunch the Testermix brand, but in retrospect, this little CD lead to many others.

First mix I have made in ages. Made for a friend and over all theme and title *I have to credit my wife for the title* as it comes from the fact almost 90% of the bands here I have seen live and a few I haven't I still wear tour shirts from almost all of them (I collect tour shirts and always wear them):D Happy with the mix as the flow was amazing between tracks.
