Comment:

THIS MIX SHOULD BE PLAYED LOUD.So a fellow music-geek co-worker asked me to list my top 10 "hardest rockin'" songs (something that I'd never thought about before)... which led me to ponder just how broad the definition of "hard rockin'" could be... which then led to this mix: all rave-ups of one stripe or another. Perfect for leaping around one's living room, I'd say... not that I'd know anything about that *personally*. ;-) Thanks to Salman, lo-fi jr and the 'Queen for their suggestions. Title by Nick Cave.Note: This mix was revised on 12/8/07. In this revision, the Stooges, White Stripes and Guitar Wolf tracks were added; the Replacements' "Kids Don't Follow," Nirvana's "Breed" and Led Zeppelin's live 1971 BBC version of "Immigrant Song" were deleted; Husker Du was moved from track 3 to track 1; Black Flag was moved from track 4 to its current position; and the Misfits' "Astro Zombies" was replaced with "Bullet" and re-located from track 13 to track 23.I had also previously asked in this section the question "What do you think my #1 hard-rockin' hit is?" earlier, hence the guesses in the "Feedback" section below and SwankQueen produced the correct answer *without* help from me. :-)

this looks fuckin' BAD ASS, rob - really glad to see that nirvana track here, & i'd have to guess that the fab four track would be your number one.

You sure know how to rock, Rob. I think the Hnskers-Boris stretch might be my favourite here, but the whole mix looks like it might just be worth rocking out to for near 80 minutes straight (something I very rarely do usually, as an attentive listener to my mixes may have been able to guess).

Motorhead, isn't it everyone's hard rockin' hit? My ears hurt just reading this. No.18 is my favourite.

Man Alive. Some hard hitting stuff here.. Does anyone want to guess which of these was my #1 "hard-rockin'" hit? Is Helter Skelter too obvious? Seen as it's on your 3rd favourite album.. Failing that, I think it may be the Black Flag..

Black Flag always gets the volume in my car. Or Mudhoney. Or that Husker song. Or, you know, Nick Drake.

This rocks my socks. Great Mudhoney and Nirvana picks and great punk rock selections. I'd probably pick the exact same ones.

Hey there, folks. Thanks for the love. While I'm not in the habit of putting feedback on my own mixes (I usually address stuff via e-mail, as many of you know), I'll make an exception here to let you know that the "favorite" in question isn't necessarily my favorite *song* on the mix from a songwriting perspective, but rather the one that I think is the coolest song that rocks the hardest. As such, the Beatles track is not the correct answer (believe it or not, I didn't even think of it until Salman mentioned it in an e-mail). Nor are the Motorhead, Black Flag, Superchunk or Huskers picks, although all of them are ranked higher than the Beatles song on the list.

Cool mix. Of course, we all have different definitions of (or preferences for) "hard rockin' songs." You're much more forgiving of metal and harder-edged rock; I lean more towards the punkish side (preferably with a touch of pop), so my like-minded mix would look considerably different.

No argument on most of your picks (can't say I share your love of the Venetian Snares, but I'm willing to give it a shot). Whole lotta love for the Birthday Party and High Rise, but no Stooges?

A "hardest rockin'" mix without anything by Bread or David Gates!? You should be ashamed of yourself. That ommission aside, this does look pretty rockin' -- with some ace tracks form Superchunks, Husker Du, the Reps and the Fab Four. I'll guess Ministry as your number #1, but it pales in comparison to "Baby I'm-A Want You."

Stand up and shout!!! Thanks for the Rawk. From my hard rock / metal background I greatly appreciate the punk, alt., indie stuff, but NOTHING is greater than Motorhead's Ace of Spades next to Slayer's Angel of Death.

Thanks for not using the horrible motley crue version of helter skelter (how did those losers rewrite history to become "the Who" of 80's hair metal).
Favs are 9,10, 19 - 24.

Wow! Great Misfits tune, same goes for the rest of the punk selections. And of course, Motorhead, Slayer, Ministry, Nirvana, Sabbath....pretty much the whole heap of heaviness.

It's Kerosene. That's your hard rocker. I listened to that 3 consecutive times and set fire to Windsor Castle. Roast royalty, that's my recipe for equality. Rock out.

I'm familiar with quite a few songs on this disc (Stooges, Motorhead, Mudhoney, Sabbath and Ministry), and when it cames to the hard stuff, I think you've got really good taste! (Although I am rather disappointed that you deleted the Led Zep and Nirvana tracks! :-()
