Sonnenschein an allen Tagen
Comment:
When I was eight or nine, my aunt (who's 15 years my senior) must've thought she was too old (i. e. grown-up) now to waste her precious time on such childish things as pop music and decided to give her complete singles collection, consisiting of about 200-300 records dating from the late 50s to 1970, which had been gathering dust at the bottom of a closet for quite a while anyway, to yours truly. Consisting mainly of 60s top-40 stuff (stacks of Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Beach Boys etc. 7"s plus loads of German Schlager trash), it formed the basis of my budding record collection, and I cherished those discs like a treasure. With the exception of two records (the Guess Who's ,American Woman", which I gave to a VERY early love of mine, and the Kinks' ,Dedicated Follower of Fashion", which broke when it slipped behind a cupboard), I still have all of them to this very day. Anyway, when I recently paid a visit to said aunt I brought her my ,65 x 65" triple set, which includes many of the songs in question. It was met with such an enthusiastic response that I decided to present her with a little follow-up disc for her upcoming birthday, this time consisting solely of records she gave me about 33 years ago. So here's 80 mins of (mostly) 60s smashes, a bit of rock 'n' roll, a bit of soul, a healthy helping of schmaltz and kitsch, with the ,German Elvis" (doing a German-language Elvis cover), a singing ice-skating champion and a few notorious Schlager epics thrown in for good measure. Nothing too original, admittedly, but it was fun to make and makes a fun soundtrack to, say, whipping up a tasty dinner in the kitchen. An extra special GRACIAS goes out to my amigo grande Valis for the Equals tune.
Feedback:
Great mix, Herr Mohr. A lot of these songs are connected to childhood memories of mine. Most of this stuff ended up in the Swiss Charts. My favorite is probably "Yellow River"--it reminds me of a Boy Scout camp in the Swiss Alps; we listened to this song over and over... Funny how songs and places can get brainwired to each other.
soft and sweet
Lovely notes and a mighty fine mix here.
How very wonderful! I'm sure your aunt will love it. And if she doesn't, I'm sure there are plenty AotMers who'd be happy to take it off her hands.
Tremendous...all around. And, as your long lost third cousin's nephew's best friend's acquaintence...I look forward to similar wonderful items!!
There are wonderful some songs here; a few real stinkers too - she'll love it, I'm sure.
Beautiful-both the mix and the sentiment which inspired it. (You're welcome, much. Always.)The Pretty Things!
Lovely.
This is fantastic. I'm so in the mood for "doo-wah-diddy diddy" right now.
Even got "Yellow River" - way cool mix.
Wow! You've really upped the auntie on this one. I'm sure she'll give you a big kiss on the lippe (but with no zunge) when she celebrates her geburtstag. May it be the inspiration behind hundreds of tasty dinners.
It's taken me many attempts to access this mix. I've finally seen it in full & guess what, i think it's fab!
Firstly, ditto sammy about the access problems - but finally got hold of it. Great sentiments behind this mix; I think that's what I like most about it, although the mix itself is very nice. Speedy Gonzales auf Deutsch. das will ich hoeren!
The title of the Kinks song says it all Thomas.
Astounding! Spot on title. These tunes make everyday a sunny one. But who is the beautiful, strange girl Herr BSumler seeks? If this had been available at Waring's Records in 1973, I'd have snapped it up. wir mnssen in die Knche einsteigen zu essen. Indeed this is a geschmackvoll mix. Pretentious, ich?
A wonderful mix and thoughtful gift.
ZUPER!
That looks like a whole lot of fun.
This looks fun indeed! Greatt back story too.
