Comment:
Ennio Morricone, although primarily a film composer, is considered to be one of the most important composers of the 20th Century. Originally meant as a Best Of Morricone , this idea prompltly abandoned when I realized I had over 400 tracks from 92 movies of the 500 plus he has scored. Instead, I concentrated on Morricone's Spaghetti Western ouevere of which he has scored approximately 42. His worst work, according to him, was A Fistfull Of Dollars. Added to the Morricone heavy mix are `Reggae' artists like Lee Perry & The Upsetters who adopted the outlaw guise of these Spaghetti Western Heroes and titled many of their instrumentals accordingly, many of them included 'cowbell mimicking horse hooves, organs imitating the music that can commonly be heard in these movies, gun shots, yelping, and many more such examples.' The Spaghetti influence was widely felt.for instance Elvis grew a beard for Charro and was The Man With No Name in all but name. Charro was scored incidentally by Hugo Montenegro, himself responsible for taking a cover of The Good The Bad & The Ugly into the charts. Hang Em High was essentially a Spaghetti shot in the US & Frontiere's score could easily have been pieced together from Morricone left-overs. Feedback:
An inspired idea dropping Lee Perry and co into this. If I had a tape deck I would love to have listened to it.
I was just thinking about Jesse James yesterday.
This is killer. Man, oh man - what a great tribute!
This might be my favorite mix by you...which is saying a whole lot.
Wonderful, all around.
Great notes, too!
Wonderful, all around.
Great notes, too!
Essential stuff. And a labor of love, as it seems . . .
A Goddam Masterpiece.
Wow, what a lesson!
Another excellent mix, and LOVE that shot!
Awe inspiring homage to a true genius, this is bloody great.
Wow!
Looks like a great one. Definitely one of the finest film score composers ever, if not the finest; hard to think of many other examples where merely mentioning the title of the film (i.e. The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly instantly conjures up the soundtrack in your mind. Well, ok, maybe Star Wars. I bought my dad a great Morricone compilation a few years ago that is now out of print; wish I'd bought a copy for myself.
Amigo this is sheer magnificence.
This fine, mighty fine. What do you say Mr. Van Cleef? "Maybe..." Typical. I, however, think it's a work of enormous stature. No innuendo intended, senor. Well done Dom1, your encyclopaedic knowledge is, of course, a lesson to us all.
THis is a great idea beautifully executed. I have several of your mixes in my "Favorites" bin and this one is going straight to the top.
Oustanding. Flawless in scope and execution despite the wealth of music available to you. You da' man Dom1. But then we knew that...(was just admiring the sounds on Danger:Diabolik Saturday night...)
Absolutely fantastic. Man, I would love to hear this - Morricone's one of my favourite film composers. The liner notes were a good read too.
I'd love to hear this.
Amazing work here - both liner notes and mix work.
Wonderful. Great notes too.
Freakin' fantastic. Better than a Mexican Stand-off!
The magnificent 27! (& then some)
Spaghetti ska! Elvis spaghetti! This mix is a fistful of dynamite.

SUper duper. Two thumbs up (and a few rounds in the air) for this marvelous mix.
Superb as usual, Dom.
Outstanding! This looks excellent in all respects (would love to hear this).
