Comment:
[July 2005] Given to my Sociology teacher when I left college. Dave; Marxist, single, likes going to the pub, Huddersfield Town, his cat - Linus, and buying guitars.01. An in joke. Dave loathes the 80s; "you didn't have to fuckin' live through them!". Crazy Natalie loved the music.
02. Likes classical music, this is the most awesome version of Canon In D I've ever heard.
03. Gratuitous use of profanity. Sounds familiar.
04. let's fuck it up boys, let's make some noise! Dave the Marxist, and not a fan of George W.
05. he was an anarchist, he tried his best but it wasn't good enough.
06. are you from round here? how do you do? Dave, Yorkshire born and bred. (The excellent acoustic version, not the shitty Babyshambles album version).
07. As he loves to say - "we'll/I'll/you'll all be dead in a hundred years, so what does it matter?"
08. Ties in with the 'Sociology of Education' module we did.
09. Very Sociology-y. Dave, from a working-class background to a cushy, middle-class teaching job.
10. i'm an ordinary guy, burning down the house.
11. Yorkshire. Representin' yo.
12. Again, gratuitous profanity, anti-Americanism (of a sort), and the funny.
13. when the president talks to god, does he ever think that maybe he's not?
14. You say you want a revolution? Come to Dave's Marxist school of... Marxism.
15. did you see the stylish kids in the riot?
16. Funniest shit ever. I wet myself (a little) laughing every time.
17. the pain of being a hopeless unbeliever - in joke. Born-again Christian Tabitha. Great student, but rubbed everyone up the wrong way.
18. A single bloke, and he loves it. Women = too much work.
19. i'll be grumpy on my own, like i don't care. Can be a bit of a bastard at times.
20. "this is no declaration, i just thought i'd let you know goodbye."
21. ...see you sometime.
A very indulgent mix on my part, with B&S, Bright Eyes and The Libertines. Dave likes The Fall.
I have no words to describe how much Iloved those two years.
Note: I'm from England so 'college' over here isn't what you (I'm assuming Americans) would think. Your college is our university. Our college is like... the last two years of (American) high-school (usually at ages 16-18). I think that's right anyway.
Notes2: This mix was a thousand times easier to make than its 'companion' for Eng. Lit. (and so it's of better quality).
Feedback:
I think someone has been binging on Belle & Seb... Seriously though this is lovely. Fascinating notes and a wonderful closing track from l'enfant terrible especially. Oh and if Dave likes The Fall I like Dave.
Intriguing. (I'm assuming this is the final version, in which case you may want to delete the other one.)
Hope you go back to college some time. Maybe not for everyone, and maybe not at this point in your life, but in the long run you'll have more options with a degree (at least that's the case in the US, unless maybe you're Bill Gates).
Incidentally, I like both Bright Eyes and the Fall, so they're not mutually exclusive.

Whoops... just realized these are two different mixes. My mistake.
Barrydali - Yeah, the first half of 2005 was when I first discovered B&S and thought they were the best thing since anything that had ever come before, so it's a bit heavy on twee-ness (but at the same time, there were so many songs of theirs that I found were appropriate). 'Goodnight Hollywood Blvd.' is probably my favourite album closing track (in my limited knowledge). Ta :) Pop Kulcher - No problem! I thought about putting in a little note to that effect (seeing as they are kind of similar), but forgot.
I also forgot to put in the 'I'm British/English' note regarding the meaning of 'college', so sorry about that! And I confess to both of you that I've not heard anything by The Fall before, so I'll have to do something about that.

Woah! Just noticed this one. It's a corker! Very entertaining. Once again the quality of your accompanying notes is high.
Great Belle and Sebastian picks.
wow, i really like your tapes...
