Comment:
[December 2005] Made as a Christmas present for my friends. Quite difficult as they've all got quite 'set' tastes or bands that they like. One's into Green Day and ska, one loves any sort of pop/dance music, another likes to stick to the classic oldies (loathes rock/indie), and the other's music taste I'm not completely sure of.01. you're going to love this, just love it. Sorry Johnny, but Gene Wilder is Willy Wonka.
02. Pretty much the song that 'inspired' the mix. Bless 'em.
03. Mostly included because I knew they all liked this track already.
04. i would like to leave this city. For the friend who's had to stay home for university, and isn't happy about it.
05. Putting Green Day on struck me as too obvious, so I went for the low key (very odd) a cappella version.
06. i came this far across the tracks, ten miles above the limit. Oh, I love this song so.
07. I only discovered just how good this song was a couple of weeks after I'd moved out. Ah.
08. tell her she can look me up, if she's got the time.
09. It's short and catchy, how could they not like it?
10. Who knew we'd ever be so up on (ridiculously expensive) train fares, and timetables?
11. ...i can't believe it, i've never been this far away from home.
12. been trying to meet you.
13. Not that we've ever had one, but this is such a friends-on-a-road-trip song.
14. Hysterical cover version.
15. don't worry, even if things end up a bit to heavy.
16. Really stretching the idea of 'distance' here.
17. We're hardly all ever in the same place at the same time anymore.
18. I'll say it again, how can anybody dislike The Simpsons?
19. and time seems to go by so fast, in the twinkling of an eye.
20. and the future is certain - give us time to work it out. I use this song far too much when I attempt to do any mixes.
21. An indulgence on my part, as I doubt of any of them'll really love it (though y'never know). I think it works well as the closing track.
Stuff they've hardly ever heard of/listened: Rufus Wainwright, Death Cab For Cutie, Bob Dylan, Talking Heads, Rilo Kiley, Pixies, Ben Lee, Dar Williams.
Sometimes having different tastes is fun, but at other times - with the I like 'their' stuff, they don't care for 'mine' - ...it's fustrating as hell.
Feedback:
Those narrow-minded....they don't deserve .... etc etc. Most enjoyable. Cartman's is the definitive version, and I love that Van Morrison track. I'd be more than happy to have this mix. I hope your friends appreciate it.
