Comment:
The popbiz always finds it easier to imitate than innovate. Discuss with examples. After second division also rans The Paramounts turned round their fortunes with a name change & ditching R'n'B in favour of semi-classical licks & incomprehensible lyrics, quite a few followed suit. So, in came stately tempi and Hammond organ players for whom the initials JS meant Johann Sebastian rather than Jimmy Smith. And if the group called themselves after some cod-Latin doggerel, so much the better.
Even some relatively well-known acts (Soft Machine, Nice, Zombies) jumped on the Whiter Shade soundalike bandwagon and the methodology could also be applied to cover versions ( Lovin' Spoonful's "You Didn't have To be So Nice"). Nevertheless, the most accurate reproduction of the Whiter template came from Procol themselves with "Homburg" -a quite fabulous piece of auto-plagiarism.
Feedback:
Great idea for a mix, and an interesting set of artists.
Brilliant plushpig! Interesting and unique. Should be hugely applauded. (I hope.)
Valis is right. This deserves a standing ovation. Funny liner notes. Some of the sound-alikes here are pretty good.... I love the Peter Thorogood track.
nice class... I learned a lot.
This is great! Thanks for taking time to put this together and to share it with us!
There's a great deal here i must check out. An interesting mix. Nicely done!
Nice work. How about a web site with 200 covers of "A Whiter Shade of Pale?
"The Cry Of Eugene", a seminal moment in my young life. I'm now suffering the curse of nostalgia, only without the hair. Damn you plushpig, you've cheered me up, thereby ruining my carefully maintained grumpy old man facade. Far out, man.
This is sooooo good. Let me know when you're up for another trade, good sir.
Very cool.
