Comment:

It's a mix AND a quiz! If any one fancies it, have a crack at the questions. The first mixer to answer all 5 will recieve a CD of their choice..
1) Why was 2001 a great year for the artists of tracks 6 & 19? 2) Which artist on this mix has a place on the cover of `Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'? 3) What connects tracks 1, 11 & 20? 4) Which singer spurned credibility by ( after much soul searching ) electing NOT to record `Whole Wide World' on the grounds that Eric stubbornly refused to let him change the lyrics `caressing her warm brown skin'? 5) What connects tracks 3, 8 & 14?

I'll take a crack at #5. The Brothers Johnson, Aretha Franklin and Lesley Gore all had adjoining rooms at the Hotel Casablanca in the Bahamas, June of '77. let me know. happy to see Shirelles, Wreckless Eric, Bros. Johnson and Mr. Nomi together here. a real nice one.

Question #1: The Brothers Louvin and the Brothers Everly were so delighted not to be affected by the Y2K bug that they went on a 4-week bender. Their hangovers did not lift until March '01.

#2: I have a photo of Donovan (leftover from my pre-teen crush) which I just placed on the cover of my (Vinyl) copy of Sergeant Pepper. Hence, the answer is Donovan

#3: All three groups have the letter E in their names.

#4: Klaus Nomi - and after losing credibility due to said soul-searching, went to Sweden where he had a very painful soul-ectomy performed, so as never to undergo such trauma again.

#5: All three artists have released round records with small holes in the middle.

Did I win? If so, the disk I want is this one!

Oh, BTW, killer mix! Georgie Fame is way underappreciated among the hipsters. And how can you go wrong when you put Leslie Gore on a mix? (the answer to that last question is: you can't!)

Damned Google, i wanted this quiz to go on for days! Oh well, well done Barry, all 5 correct. You can have the cd (bah).
Jenny, your answers were better than the ones in front of me, but alas no cigar! Ed, i think you missed the point but valiant effort anyways. p, nice try but from where Sam is standing Kevin Rowland has all the credibility in the world. Thanks for the interest guys, i may post another (much harder!!) quiz sometime soon.

Bloody Hell, this is good. Love that Elvis track. Love that Otis Redding track. Love that....oh, bugger, I love them all. As for the quiz element, naturally I know all the answers, but Sammmy will assume I googled my way to them, so nyarr nyarr nyarr. Is it me, or are sammyg's boots getting smaller? :)

Boy, I am having trouble with this one. OK: artists 7, 10, and 17 are former members of the Yardbirds who went on to pursue independent careers in hip-hop. I admit I used Google but I am sure this is correct.

Weird -- just 10 minutes ago I downloaded "Don't Bring Me Down" at iTunes. (I was surprised as I didn't recall how bare-bones simple the production is.) +nyway, this mix has some nice retro moments!
